Introduction:
-------------
Late last year, my old Galaxy Nexus was now so really no more, so I needed a new smartphone. Criteria should be: ordinary hardware, so that the phone again keep up for a while, contrary to the trend phablet not too big, not too overloaded software interface and not overpriced so. In the more choice the Huawei Mate came 7 (great P / L ratio, but too large), the HTC One M7 (nice, but no storage expansion, hardware a bit aged, no removable battery) or M8 (though now with memory expansion, it but quite expensive, camera mediocre), the Samsung S5 (nice features, but I liked it purely optically, ugly UI, plus a bit pricey) and the Sony Xperia Z3 compact (super hardware for size, so should "Minis" be equipped but quite expensive and many reports of simply cracked glass front and back - at the price a no go). So I got back with no favorites and then thought to myself, the LG G3 is me actually too big, but at the relatively low price of its competitors in the field looking ego me Just looking at.

First Impression:
--------------------
After unpacking, I noticed immediately that despite plastic very beautiful and attractive appearance, good workmanship, to the fairly low weight and brilliant for the screen size compactness - it is not appreciably larger than the S5 with a larger screen. Since no hardware buttons are installed on the front and the sides, the device looks very tidy, simple and elegant. The back of plastic in brushed aluminum look like me well, but this of course does not feel as classy as real metal - for it is not so cold in winter. To some it may be too smooth and therefore ungriffig, I have no problem with that - otherwise you can or similar here with a thin silicone sleeve Be remedied. The knob assembly for volume and power of the camera is getting used to, but as it turned downright awesome shows. The headphone output is how the micro USB input, bottom of the unit, where he also most makes sense for me because I the mobile phone always around in his pocket did that the output shows up - here go the habits safe apart for me but perfect.

Start:
-------
Unless the court has nothing yet done wrong, so I inserted my Micro SIM card and start the unit. Coming from the Nexus, I had no microSD card on hand and have it also for the more voluptuous memory at 32GB version first omitted, but it is of course always good to be able to retrofit since. The battery is easily replaceable and the Qi inductive charging loop is integrated in the local version of the same in the battery cover, so you have to buy a further change to Cover (see Samsung). The launch of the device is quite fast, the device via Google accustomed easily. The unit came with Android Kitkat and a OTA update of the settings was not visible, but updated via the update tool (with me some display errors with, but functionally in order) from the LG website was quickly Lollipop. The runtime environment will be changed during the update, so take the first reboot for some time, while all the apps are for refurbished, but then everything goes quickly and smoothly. For stuttering it never comes virtually, from time to time be in returning to the home screen widgets recharged.

Screen:
--------------
The much advertised 5.5 "screen with QHD resolution is a double-edged sword. First of all, he is incredibly sharp, a Grade 3 with a minimally larger screen provides a direct comparison of significantly blurred, even though its focus of course is completely sufficient. The color rendering is a matter of taste, here the court is definitely realistic, next to a Samsung AMOLED screen it looks but according to a bit bland from -. I gefällts Despite or perhaps because on the default home screen is unfortunately a minimum, something lighter border around font and some contours defined, what should make them more readable, but actually looks slightly out of focus, they would rather have omitted the feature. With another launcher that can also be turned off. The brightness affects initially weaker than AMOLED rivals, however, makes an adaptive control good job, so that even in the sun, the display always remains easy to read, even if the brightness was down regulated for power saving reasons. Meanwhile, I got used to it and looking forward rather than the savings in battery percent. The large display can be thanks to the narrow border just served me with one hand, but I also have pretty big hands with glove size 11 and also for me, this is only a temporary solution. With two hands, the whole course no problem. But the biggest drawback of super sharp and large displays is to be correspondingly large current consumption: when the screen is permanently on, as in the play, one can almost watch the battery level indicator at the sink.
------------------------------
Software / UI & Features:
------------------------------
The simple but very functional user interface has been subtly adapted by LG, but often reminded Stock Android and is in my opinion succeeded after very well. There are a few partly more and partly less useful preloaded apps (LG-own AppStore, Office Viewer, Voice Search ...), which can be, unfortunately uninstall only partly (why will not you go, McAffee?), But fortunately not appear and can be ignored. Multiple users with different home screens or even a guest account with limited access rights can be created. The screen content can be mirrored by Miracast on suitably equipped TVs in the WLAN - jerky with me something (possibly the WLAN also to blame), but quite nice to show pictures. A great feature is the Knock Code: on the one hand the phone twice can tap the screen to be woken up from standby, the other one can even order the lockscreen, often banned, replaced by a pattern or a code by a pattern typed. Works fine, leaves less distinct smears and is prone to error, when you just brought the phone out of his pocket and was already with your fingers on the screen - then just continue typing. A Fingerabruckscanner there not so but it also bypasses the debate on data protection and functionality. In addition, there is on board a radio and an IR remote control that operates not only a lot of devices at once, but can also be taught as a universal remote control.
------------------------
Acoustics & reception:
------------------------
A nowadays part a little bit underrated point of so-called. Telephones is the acoustics, but on both sides is very good at G3. In speakerphone mode it is still okay, though perhaps not perfect - at least well-usable. When listening to music on headphones, I could, at least in my device places no noise and also the supplied earphones have a decent sound (that me these in-ear buds fit never properly can probably not change, but I have another set of headphones) , Without headphones the speaker sound is useful in music and games, but nothing special use, rather headphones. The reception is at me with the G3 consistently better than my old smartphone and mostly very good (T-Mobile network), also on stains in the apartment where I previously had no receipt, I can easily make calls now - that is certainly differently from place to place, but also when traveling by train I notice a slight gain reception. The transfer rates have also risen, although I have not tested explicitly.
-----------
Camera:
-----------
The camera focuses quickly and shoots even faster, almost instantaneously - no comparison to older smartphones, but here is not the evil competition. The laser-focus works near apparently very good but otherwise the camera takes very good pictures. For printed photos I'll still have my digital camera, but in between times when I've forgotten it, the camera phone is to use, at least during the day well. When you zoom, contours are sometimes a bit washed out, but that criticism at a high level for a cell phone. At night, the camera loses like all smartphone cameras because of the small lens dimensions, but for snapshots reichts even then - here the optical image stabilizer helps significantly compared to competing cameras. The software is equipped with the most important features, but not overloaded: Normal, (auto) HDR, Panorama, "Magic Focus" (with adjustable depth of field), dual (front and rear camera at a time), Video to UHD, Slow Motion ... overall consistency, I might like to Photosphere- and Timelapse functions, but yes there other apps, and generally I use these gadgets also barely.
----------------
Battery life:
----------------
Now even to me very important issue, the battery life - in addition to the deteriorating performance of my old phone with a new purchase reason. Here I was after Ettlich test reports initially very skeptical about the G3, since the opinions go here far apart. And sure enough, as described can already sit and watch the battery level indicator of 3000 mAh indeed strong, but also the phone size adequate batteries during descent, when the example screen is permanent in play at - here you can clearly see that many pixels will be provided with information , On the other hand holds the battery, which is charged with the original charger in about 2 hours, ever, when the screen is underused, so I read a battery loss of sometimes only 10% on a working day with occasional short messages, short calls, messages for breakfast and during the lunch break, etc. and then come included moderate use in the evening quite easily over two days. Here is of course clear that the transit time is highly abhänig from personal usage, but for people who play a little on the phone (or for that head off and recharge at), it should be no problem, on the contrary.
-----------------
Performance:
-----------------
Today also important is the performance, which I put above all value for everyday use. Here, I can only rarely find minimal stuttering while scrolling when the phone was just awakened from sleep - nothing you'd really notice. I've also briefly reingeschaut in graphics-intensive games like Real Racing and have to say that it's amazing what is possible on mobile devices today. Again, no stuttering ansich, where the frame rate is felt on devices with less high-resolution displays higher. Mir is however important that apps load quickly and I can easily switch between selbiger some apps without rebooting what works! Problems and with the 3GB of RAM (in the 32 GB version of the G3, in the 16GB version also large 2 GB) also nor should some time working well.
----------------------
Second impression:
----------------------
After three weeks in use all positive initial impressions have confirmed. I must say that the arrangement of the buttons on the back with the current models of the device is centered very convenient because you will not need so much stretch or off also comes with smaller hands and with both left and right. The plastic back is somewhat scratch-prone, but by the aluminum look that falls so far not on. The Gorilla Glass front by contrast is used constantly, I let the phone Try not to fall, but use it also no protective casing or film, what with good treatment makes no problems. The only problem I had so far was that the phone has completely hung up when I around the 0 ° C tried next to the GPS tracking via Runtastic while jogging in, to take a photo of the lock screen. Turning left after the second attempt only with charger, since no other abnormalities - at home I could not reproduce the error. Do not know if that was on the device, the software, Random or whatever, but I think I ever heard of this problem - I werds in mind. If someone has more experience to be happy Report.
-------
Conclusion:
-------
All in all, stands the G3 might initially not with exaggerated promises (except for the display) out of the crowd, but it just also virtually no weaknesses. For this purpose I like the design, it is more manageable than imagined, the battery lasts for not to display dominant use two days, the camera takes good pictures and the display sharpness is phenomenal - even if you actually do not need. Better would probably be a full HD version, the battery then according to (yet) by last longer. The plastic material is convenient, but not outstanding, thought the button design and the user will no stones placed in the way with regard to storage expansion, NFC, lollipop availability etc. Apart from one crash so far no software problems or stuttering and so far a super total package at a now especially when compared to other manufacturers attractive price.

Top:
+ Handier than thought
+ Current hardware inner workings at a competitive price
+ Good camera with image stabilizer
+ Battery lasts a long time depending on usage
+ Battery is replaceable
+ Memory expandable
+ Much RAM for future security
+ Well-functioning Knock Code
+ Universal Remote Control
+ Very good reception

Neutral:
o QHD resolution is nice but not necessary
o Size borderline even for large hands
o No fingerprint scanner (those who need it ...)

Flop:
- QHD display eats up lots of power
- Display on-time corresponding to not tip
- Crash when jogging + cold + GPS + photo?

Update 11:02:15:
----------------
A quick update in between: an OTA update came in the last days (V20h further Android 5.0), after which felt everything goes still a tick faster by hand, before / after benchmarks I did not indeed measured, but that was (for me) is not necessary even at the very good performance before the update. Prior to the good piece is again crashed when taking over the lock screen (this time without running, in the apartment, albeit coming in from the cold) and could only be restarted after I had the battery removed shortly - luckily it is replaceable. Since the software update I have nothing like experiencing more, but if it happens again, I'll probably try a reset to factory settings. Slightly annoying, but so rare then not really terrible. Etc. overheating, other app crashes has never happened to me. The denounced by me bright light to writings on the home screen is, as I have now been found to be a white shadow of the black font - depending on the background color, the font color will change to white and what looks the shadow color to black much better in my opinion, but that's probably a matter of taste. The back accumulated by lying around and -Slide on different surfaces further small, inconspicuous scratches, the smooth plastic material is not here 100% perfectly, through the metal optics but fällts not too much on. Otherwise, I am very satisfied, the front is not vulnerable and remains scratch-free even without shell with good treatment and transport in your pocket (without key). That the battery lasts two days, more rule than the exception is now (the first "season" with the new device is over;)), I have pleasant as no longer the nightly charge reflex and sometimes I manage to even complete 3 days and have still a little reserve on - but only when I have much else to do and the smart little use.

In sum, I would buy the G3 with previous impressions at any time and I am happy that I have chosen, despite initial skepticism for LG's flagship model.
