It has been 3 years since I use GTD in my daily life. As such, I would like some additional contributions.
David Allen defines his method as a method of personal organization, as opposed to a simple method of "task management". The difference is fundamental, because if David Allen, in this book, does not go as far in advance that vision to Stephen R. Covey in "The 7 Habits ...", the "8th Habit" and "priorities priorities "It is an essential element of the method. David Allen and Stephen R. Covey are very complementary :)
This vision is included in the chapter on Altitudes and the importance put on the Journals, which are also too often ignored when reading the book. Compared to the rest of the method is the hardest part to understand and implement, but it is essential.
Personally, I use a great notebook, the Orgabook, which greatly facilitates me implementation of the GTD method.
The time spent to implement this method is not free, it's true. But this time can achieve tremendous efficiency, while sorting out an action "to do" and an action that takes priority (which is consistent with the vision).
Whether to include in the method that is both personal and professional, it's simply because the brain is not able to compartmentalize life so simply.
Having read both versions, the French translation to better understand some concepts of the method. Sometimes it is regrettable passages translated too literally, and it would have been desirable to purify the French translation of rehearsals and cumbersome "American." But this translation is very correct quality.
I agree nolok in his conclusion.
This book finally translated into French, describes a method popular with more than 1.5 million people worldwide, and it's not for nothing. GTD is intuitive and very efficient, if one is willing to make the necessary organizational effort. This requires discipline, and as himself says David Allen, you have to have fun with nice tools. IT tools such as paper or Orgabook, or both, the choices are vast, treat yourself!
The results, and an incredible sense of freedom, is do not wait. :)
Happy reading.
