The Canton Chrono 509 DC loudspeakers should replace old magnate qualititiv superior when investing my son. The delivery came with Prime to reliably and on time, as I'm used to it from Amazon.
The speakers do a very sophisticated look and see, especially not strung out very well. The build quality is impeccable.
They were connected to a HK 980 and there were a variety of music leaked (not classical). The result immediately after starting operation was ... depressing. Several disappointed faces. No highs and deep bass presence only in certain frequencies. That did not change by long repositioning. I had the speakers immediately actually been sent back to the retest and rated with a star, but in the manual and in various reviews is yes, the sound actually comes out only after a break-in period of 20 hours.
So my son has heard hardworking and run (> 30h) and yesterday we again extensively with several sample belongs: Clearly, the sound is much better. However, this only applies to the bass, which sounds now clearly linear. For my taste is quite ok and corresponds to what I expected at the membrane size and bass reflex, the rest of the audience found him sometimes still too weak.
But unfortunately, the heights were not, there has improved not by the import. Where one normally hears the real nuances (voices, painting), just do not have too much, as if these taken out through a filter. Space does not come on.
By comparison, the Magnat (name I do not know) are really quite simple parts, which cost about 300 new 8 years ago. The depths of the Cantons are better in the heights and in terms of space, the Magnat are better. Overall, I therefore find the Cantons only marginally better than the old magnate.
I even hear Revox Symbol B MKII (which I bought new 28 years ago), now at a new HK 990, previously Citation and flatter myself that I up to this price range at least must allow a subjective judgment.
The Cantons look really good and are also handled properly for the price range. The sound does not match but absolutely the expectations that I have in this price range. I have a Philips All-in Surround System (!) For about 600, that sounds roughly comparable good (less linear in bass / mid wg. The lack of real midrange, but significantly better height and space). This may therefore not really be.
Too bad, because I will have to look any further, the Cantons go today anyway back.
