Unfortunately, however, is not a welcome miracle also the integrated LTE module. The thing was actually decisive for my choice of Duo13 because besides the announced Fujitsu Stylistic Q704, no comparable device provides an LTE modem. But also on the 4G modem, the power values are unfortunately under which my ancient surfsticks am 8 years Toshi. The permanent disconnections gradually straining something my Frustiationstoleranz. The 3 / 4G connection of Duo13 often breaks off every minute and can then usually only by manual, reconnect restore. Anyone wishing to use the Duo mobile, should therefore consider buying dear twice.
Still a few information for potential buyers who do not need a reliable network connection:
In my choice, I had the Dell XPS12 that Lenovo Helix pad and the Duo13 in the top configuration. The Dell dropped out due to lack of LTE, the poorer IPS panel and the lack of Digitizer. The modular system of the Helix pads should be more suitable for intensive use than the duo and be cheaper to repair than the built-in devices. But the Ivy-CPU of Lenovo pads can be power hungry in comparison to the newer Haswell CPU of the other two.
The Haswell CPU can be the power supply sometimes be relaxed for a day's work are at home. I worked part over 8 hours without power, among other things with Photoshop, more dare I at least not so far to require a Ultrabook.
The Trilouminous panel covers S-RGB to 96% (with 75% Adobe RGB) relatively accurately from. Sony has the indispensable Digitizer Pen reasonably well integrated. Although technically given the N-Trig digitizer is not pressure sensitive. In Photoshop are essential functions such as polygonal lasso for the digitizer without function.
Notebook or ultrabook with a conventional hinge design and a touch panel I think is nonsense. It has the Sony although only one possible angle for the display, but the annoying considerably less, as a screen that basically undisturbed yields when used with the fingers. In addition, you can take the Duo-construction in notebook mode better than with conventional Ultrabooks tap Lap. Impatient Grobmotoriker should incidentally rather acquire an ultra-Toughbook. There are undoubtedly iditiotensichere Convertible constructions when the slider function of filigree Duo13. But this mechanism also brings numerous ergonomic benefits, for those who just do not tabletop is available as a workstation.
A key feature that is not mentioned elsewhere, the new optimization is the smartphone-like permanent on / stand-by mode. The Sony's proprietary "Connected Standy" solution is, however, referred to as "Active Sleep". This ingenious feature distinguishes the Duo13 from Pro and other Ultrabooks and Convertibles. Good thing, I do not want to give up, that changed my user behavior drastically.
Conclusion: The Duo13 has on paper a comprehensive equipment package, the components, however, are for the most part without function or are only limited power available (GPS module, pressure sensitivity of the digitizer pen, LTE weak among others.). The build quality of my device is frightening. Although the device has sensational defects (eg. Panel to 3mm domed unacceptable gap), Sony improved only after massive pressure on. The estimated repair time is now valued at more than six weeks !!! A replacement unit provides the manufacturer the way not to ...
Pro:
- Grandiose "Triluminous" -IPS panel with semi-professional color space
- Thick power reserves despite low power consumption
- Good ergonomics of the touch function in the unfolded notebook mode through two contact points of the screen
- Own wireless router in the power supply (also serves as a clever substitute the LAN jack on the device)
- Super quiet
- Decent sound in view of the small sound box
- The Digitizer has a limited scope, however, makes precise
- All connections on rear panel
Integrated SDHC card reader in the housing -
- Innovative "Connected Standby" mode (CS) - Sleep mode active as a smartphone
- 1400g are given the facilities top class
- As opposed to the silver version the black Duo13 very noble acts (apart from the Spaltmaßproblemen some devices)
Minus
- Unacceptable reception problems with Wi-Fi and LTE module (The terminations are for a Win 8.1 update from the Sony hotline early February has strongly discouraged no longer a problem Lt. however forums should be the effective transfer rate below average in everyday life.. I feel no traffic jam, so I can live with the status.)
- Outrageously carrier service, despite the most obvious production error of the hardware (more than 11 weeks without replacement unit)
- GPS module without function
- Battery and SSD are permanently installed as with many ultrabooks, but the example, a Fujitsu T904 can better
- WLAN and Bluetooth can be shared thanks antenna use limited simultaneously
- Limited functionality of the N-Trig digitizer - no tenderness, much functions (egin Photoshop) are not available via the pin
- Sporadic failures of the backlight
- The case and its folding mechanism are elegant but unfortunately also scary filigree.
- The housing must be ungriffig for one-handed use as a tray. The extremely scratch-sensitive bottom should be as rubberized at the Flip models.
- The right shift key is small and is unhappy next to the cursor keys
- The optional bag is susceptible to scratching and ridiculously expensive
- High-quality materials processed with modest gap
- In tablet mode, the CPU power is throttled
- Manufacturers would like the Vaio unprofitable division currently selling, that is, the service may not be secured
- Unqualified hotline support necessitates senseless installations
- Sony remains even after more than three weeks a promised purchase price refund guilty (2.5 months after submitting the device !!!)
Update on WLAN complaint October 20
After the buyers were initially invited to make their Duo installation floored by their device to send to the service, those things came back unrepaired data adjusted and, very unspaßig. Then there was until a week ago a ban on adoption Duo13 owners who complained about your Vaio with schwächelndem Wlan. Once I had to dig deeper, you want to bring in the service my Duo13 now. I'll probably pretty pissed if my device is coming back again without noticeable improvement in WLAN reception performance ...
Update on WLAN complaint October 23
The Hotline does more harm than good. When I asked out my Duo should be suddenly brought into the service also to solve the WLAN Probem. For this I ask should delete my data and programs, the computer would be picked up on Monday. After the thing was not picked up for two days, told me the hotline on my renewed request, the colleague had initiated no pick up and at all one would still not solve the wifi problem. Well you asked me to repeat everything to reinstall and re einzuspielen the latest drivers that I had actually been installed. After many more hours I was able to find, as expected, that nothing has changed on the status.
Today I had more Gück the hotline, for a change, no representative of the Bravia hotline. Now I explained the staff they had to continue, no software solution to the problem. Being myself in less than 6 meters away fighting in direct line of sight of the router at the conference table with performance problems and crashes and brave reclaim, it now gives me a free WiFi USB adapter as a temporary solution. Certainly I will give up on this Euro 9 Lollipop permanently dissatisfied ...
After a spontaneous total failure of the computer is now missing suddenly the driver of the Broadcom wireless module. Unfortunately, it is not a new driver install, the old could not cleanly erased. So another new installation. Then missing Vaio update without me, can if ever make with difficulty the necessary updates. Now can also Vaio update no longer install - bingo. Slowly costs my activities as an involuntary beta tester for Sony too much time and energy ...
And to prevent any misunderstanding bad: The problem with the Broadcom adapters have all Duo13. Here there are a few testers who got the thing for a short-term test to play. As far as possible I have been working with the unit daily often more than ten hours, the. Since August In theory my Duo13 the perfect equipment for my work ...
Who uses the thing close to a router with good range, will probably not notice the problems without Speed Test the connection. After the first driver update at least the disconnections decreased. So if you look not accurate, can probably be blinded. Others have, however, the data throughput of the adapter measured and since we're talking about a fraction of the usual performance. One can live with such a thing, in a 1900 Euro device the supposed top class but I expect more than the transfer capacity of an acoustic coupler.
On the issue with the GPS, the hotline does not even go so far one way,. I am not amused ...
Update November 3:
After updating to 8.1, the crashes have continued to decline but the transfer rate is still dramatically below the usual average performance. At least you can now work a bit more sense, as long as you do not send thick packets on the journey.
Impressive is the service hotline disaster. After the promised pick-up of the unit also promised the USB wireless adapter is now never been sent. Get me tomorrow therefore again a few unimaginative excuses pick up the hotline and finally escalate the complaint manager. After the final discussion and sent my photos of diagonally hanging WinHome button and the gap to the frame that thing with the production tolerance was Sonie at least finally ready to look at more closely. Of course we are not talking yet of an otherwise customary repair exchange, my Duo13 is simply picked up and sent back to> 5 days. That means I can do without my tools despite undeniable manufacturing defect two weeks. Or want to tell anyone that the warped and badly cemented casing in service rework ..?
Slowly, I can understand why Sony breaks off the business in all lines so dramatic. So a service you can perhaps with cheap consumer products but allow certainly not for commercial users.
Update DECEMBER 16:
The Vaio has two weeks in service, the announced five working days are exceeded. After I contacted the "Service" today, tells me an unfriendly staff member, a repair should not be expected before January 6, the new panel would only be available. It was not considered necessary to inform me of this insanely long time to repair. A replacement unit does not offer Sony. I will now times nachhaken with our lawyer, how can I defend myself effectively.
It's really unimaginable that Sony manages to undercut the lousy service the last few weeks ...
Update January 13, 2014:
Although the Panel should be allegedly delivered on January 6, my unit is still in service. Sonie has not been reported until now. Fortunately, my MediaMarkt has provided a loan unit, normally I would for over a month without a notebook. This service is unfortunately at the expense of my dealer who really should not be responsible for the poor quality of Sony products.
The dealer is now trying again to learn about the sales about the whereabouts of my Vaios. Since Sony has me put off long enough to avert the immediate conversion, remains for me to put into default at the worst case, only the way my dealer. The currently has a good word to spare for Sony, that's probably not an isolated case ...
Who needs a Convertible for professional use, the now available Fujitsu T904 or the upcoming Q904 should look. Fujitsu provides the necessary for business customers services that provide more features for election as the Duo13 and with my Life Books I never had such problems. For me, the train is probably out unfortunately. Let's see if and when I see my device again, an update follows ...
Update 5 February. -> The ultimate meltdown
Sonie has reported 10 days after the promised delivery of my spare parts. Now one admits suddenly not being able to repair the unit. Oblique enough, has now promised a refund of the purchase price with the manufacturer. Why you offer me any replacement unit, wants me at Sonie however tell nobody.
The refund should be made actually within two weeks, according to the service hotline. Once again this further promise was broken by Sony and now I'm waiting for my money over three weeks, we have the club tomorrow finally put in default, to make sure that I do not have to wait for months on my money. The hotline has informed today, so a refund can take a little longer often times. Four to six weeks would still not be a problem but you can understand it, if the customers are a little upset when things will take months ...
I did not expect that a premium manufacturer can afford such an unimaginably poor service. My dealer has confirmed to me that I am not an isolated case, Sony would limit its service currently massively. For me, this can only mean that I'm going to make the future a wide berth all products of this luxury scrap producers.
And now comes another Lacher the "Service" hotline: According to German "Support" (February 2014) is so far no update DUO13 owner on Win8.1. The resulting consequences would be worse than the problem with the WLAN. This means that even after six months Sonie has his Duo13 problem not extensively under control. However, I have updated two different Duo13 on Win8.1. In both devices, the hours had lasted but contradict the statement of the Hotline, I was able to at least work with the device, or surf without massive crashes. Nevertheless, the hotline from strongly recommends that you perform the update. So whoever hopes as swindled DUO13 customer on the help of the Sony hotline, which should rather read horoscopes or can lay the cards ...
Conclusion: I am happy when my lawyer has finally returned my money from Sonie. For sure I will not have to wait for months on my purchase price refund, even if the allegedly provide the internal processes at Sonie so.
Today I learned also what ludicrously bad service explained: Sony wants to separate from the brand Vaio. The business is probably not profitable and already looking for a buyer. So far, however, no one seems to be keen on the bride. Nice if you had known half a year ago ...
