The first part of the 8-year presidency, is very interesting. In addition to the relations between the two men of power, we discover all the great affairs that rocked America in the 50s: The Checkers Speech, where Joseph McCarthy, the Indochina War, Luther King, the beginnings of the conquest of space, not to mention the myocardial President!
So this first part of the book (fairly consistent) provides a comprehensive picture of the fifties! Although I regret that the Castro case was not developed enough.
Then comes the period "Nixon For President". The campaign is described for us the time of a chapter. I learned little anecdotes that were not present in other books (eg a moment Nixon péta the shot and began to give kicks in the seat of a car, or that just before the results, he made a trip to Mexico)
The third part is a little less interesting: this is the wilderness for Nixon from 1960 to 1968. He wrote his book and continues to have influence in politics. The author shows us that Nixon and Eisenhower did not lose sight and continues to actively communicate.
Finally last part: the "comeback" of Nixon for the presidential elections of 1968. The book stops on the events of 69, the date of the death of Eisenhower after multiple attacks. So the book does not tell us the dual mandate of Nixon.
CONCLUSION:
This book perfectly fulfilled its role, talk about the Eisenhower-Nixon policy torque through the events they had to face. We see several time the ambiguity of the general who always wants to have the right role and often appears as hypocritical since it does not say what he thinks Nixon. After all that does not receive nearly the duo quickly shipped, for example the assassinations of JFK, RFK, MLK are treated in a paragraph. I'm critical, I just warn those of you who might think that the book speaks further.
In short, a very informative book, accessible enough overall. To advise all lovers of this period!
