And this album.
Already upon reading the reviews it is clear that here out of the ordinary must be: continuous maximum points, not a criticism! And across all genres and ages ...
However, this is easy to explain: the fourth, "nameless" long work the group is actually a "monolith" as the Vorrezensent has noted plastically which brooks no comparison.
A few handpicked compositions, all standards.
"Black Dog" (first time) trademarkig howling Plant; losbrettender Page ever with (once again) one of the most famous guitar solos;
"Rock And Roll": Nomen est omen. Bill Haley to the square. Markstein.
"The Battle Of Evermore": atmosphere: swamp. Chopped heads, slit bodies, summoning the dead demons.
"Misty Mountain Hop": cult. Unusual melody: Melodic, but deeply slanted. Sympathetic.
"Four Sticks". All-time favorite.
"Going to California": Pleasant, reticent, musing.
And above all two firecrackers:
1. "When The Levee Breaks". Thundering drums, stunningly recorded. Bonham at his best. Page plays the blues with the left. Such unspectacular, that the action underestimated (and begins to ask only after the song: as he played it?).
And:
2. "Stairway To Heaven". What can be said on this title yet, that has not already been said a thousand times? No Idea. Therefore, my personal approach: First, not to be categorized (eg as "Ballade"). The song eludes such pigeonholing. What is certain: When asked about the ultimate song of all time, probably almost everyone will call this item. Perfectly presented, ingenious composition (lifts unspectacular, even modestly, increases with the onset of drums to the guitar solo - guitar solo - to explode - and the possibility to offer kindly to conclude, to erfangen again; Highest emotion in song and instrumentation). A song with downright cathartic effect. After listening you are a better person.
And, yes, of course tried any (aspiring) guitarist, reenact this milestone - mostly with deprimierendem result.
One of the best compositions of all time.
And one of the best albums of all time.
