Was heard with the following equipment:
Amplifier SONY TA-FB940R
CD player Sony DVP-NS900V
Speaker Magnat Quantum 603
Reiner stereo operation
Optics / processing:
With its piano finish and rounded edges the Quantum come along 603 very elegant, indeed almost noble and increase so unpack again the anticipation of an early, extensive listening. The protective covering can be thanks to magnetic mounting very easy to remove and attach again, without being somehow shaky or cheap. The housing and the connectors on the back of each speaker to make a quality impression. The terminal (incl. Bi-wiring) with its gilded screws and cable bridges is really easy to handle, annoying "Fummel land" how they might know of other boxes, remain a thus spared. Up to this point so everything is in the green zone. For this price range I would even speak of a clearly above-average optics and processing. But we come to the sound ...
Sound:
Let's start with the heights.
The first thing you notice: they act circumcised.
The frequency response is indeed given up to 55000 Hz - and the human ear is the latest from 20000 Hz anyway closing - yet one constantly has the feeling that there is still quite a bit of upward air. Namely, in both senses. About terms such as "brilliance" you need not even a second thought related to the tweeters. The upper frequency range tends quite clear to sizzle and acts anything but "fixed". This fragility makes, for example, particularly at acoustic guitars or instruments like glockenspiel etc. noticeable.
A problem that can also be seen in the context of the weak base: the average frequency range is quite simply too little presence in order to give the heights such thing as a solid basis or a "body" can. (Actually) dynamic, powerful and lively sounding acoustic guitars toil thin, weak and flat through their parts. In the upper frequencies of the field and definition, in the middle of the volume you are lacking.
Better, however, it looks turn out at the lower frequencies. Although the rule is again that the "air", what I have already criticized in the heights, albeit in the opposite direction. Nevertheless, the woofers leave not the worst idea in the bass. Because what they produce, not sound spongy, is neatly defined and captures even at higher volumes is not as fast with the "rumble" or "roll over" to.
As for the sound in general, I often had a similar impression as when listening to an mp3 file with fairly poor resolution: at a moderate level the whole thing sounds pretty buoyant and colorless. A higher volume brings improvement, but too high may be the level does not rotate because of the sound that is the high rules then relatively quickly stressful.
The shortcomings of these boxes come with purely electronic music still the least to the fore. Votes are still ok piano sounds a bit dull and flat, sometimes called "cheesy", but is still audible. Problematic wirds such as acoustic guitars with higher frequency instruments. Quite striking: pool at drums (Zischelorgien!).
I write it do not like, but somehow sound the boxes tend to have plastic. To avoid misunderstandings: with "plastic" I do not mean "cold" or "analytical" ...
Of course, it depends always separate from other equipment, the preferred music and listening habits of the individual from.
Still, I can hardly imagine how the advocates of "analytical", but also the followers of a "warm" sound (even less) to be really happy with these speakers.
Conclusion:
Clear, high-end audiophile freaks look at anyway from the outset to elsewhere.
However, all other interested in music be warned herewith a blind purchase and should listen to the speakers as possible before an envisaged purchase somewhere.
Because in my opinion they are for Middle Class stereos overall not really sufficient when upgrading / replacement for the speakers of underperformance mini or compact system although certainly conceivable, but already almost too expensive. But as part of a surround system, I think they could be an acceptable price / performance alternative for one or the other.
Pleasing appearance / features / processing + marbled sound quality + low price = three stars ***.
