The finished Rancor Pit is approximately 19 cm wide, 19 cm long and 15 cm high and well represents the quasi stable of Rancor monster represents. Included are also four characters and of course the Rancor itself. The Pit consists of four pillars and a gate, extending, if necessary, completely on and folds out. In goal, a gate is to pull up by the fit of the Rancor. Next to the gate there is a small door that serves as input for the Rancor keeper Malakili. In a pillar is his secret hiding place, where Luke Skywalker can bring before gefräßigem Monster in safety. In addition, a secret compartment conceals marked with a skull in the ground between two columns a key and a bone. Rounding out the equipment with a pitchfork, a bucket, another key and a box with a meat leg therein.
The four figures in the set initially heard a white skeleton. In itself not spectacular, but the arms are bent at this skeletal figure. That is new. Then there is the porcine Gamorrean-guard who from 9516 set is identical to the. Head to Wampe be plugged into the classic LEGO torso. Weapons it does not have what predetermined his role as fodder for the Rancor (as in the film). Luke Skywalker, the third figure remains almost defenseless. He must give up his lightsaber, but it is a big bone as a weapon available. His black-and-gray outfit is likely to be identical to the set of 9496, but the faces are a little different. He has two facial expressions: serious and joyful. Unfortunately, his hair is too short, so you always see the mouth of the actually hidden face behind the head. Yet it should be mentioned the Rancor Keeper Malakili last. The really great with his big belly along with chest hair. He also has two facial expressions: grim and sad (including tear).
But now to the actual showpiece of the set: the Rancor. It is about the size of three LEGO figurines and consists of (without the eight claws on his fingers) a total of 10 parts (torso + mandible + two arms + two hands with two fingers). Portable are only arms, hands, fingers and lower jaw. The whole creature is with his little eyes, the huge hands and the armored back fairly close to his film-model. On his right arm is a chain attached. In his big mouth can put a good figure (only the feet still look out) and in his paws may also enclose a figure. Unfortunately, it is not to catch the vertical jaw bone. On the shoulders of Rancors you can make a figure or to request something to build off.
A special feature of the set is of course its compatibility with Jabba's Palace (Set 9516). Are located on the underside of which four holes, so it can be easily stuck on the four pillars of the Rancor pit. Now you can drop directly into the pit a character through the trapdoor of the palace (which now really makes sense). Both sets successively built indeed look good, but unfortunately can be in this state, the Gates of the pits no longer boot. That's annoying.
In summary, one can consider this set with a crying as with mixed emotions. The figure of Rancors undoubtedly stands out. The set itself is okay, even if it is of course only really fun along with the palace. Too bad that one then, the gate can no longer boot. Tears in the eyes drives a the proud price for then but few LEGO bricks. A total of 3.5 stars.
