I am, however, quite some time looking for a camera which closes the gap between the 77 and the RX100. The problem is that my 77 traveling is too bulky and heavy, especially with its two lenses. The RX100 can of course compensate very well due to their small size and light weight, but it just does not cover everything, especially not in VR zoom range. Unfortunately, the problem has worsened with the transition from the MK1 to MK3 because instead of 100mm focal length only 70mm are at your disposal, but the EVF and the higher light intensity it were me value.
Looking for an alternative I have in the meantime the Alpha tried 6000. An excellent camera, but for lack of affordable lenses no solution for me. My review for that I have already published here on Amazon.
After reading the reviews on dpreview I then ordered the RX10. As you type (Bridge Camera) suggests, it is now to close the above-mentioned gap between the two cameras as a bridge solution.
The result times ahead taken. I think in the sum of its properties, the camera is a very good solution, but as a jack of all trades one should also note that it can only be a compromise in the individual disciplines ever, albeit a good.
For example. the size and weight. With the 800g Camera is no lightweight and weighs almost 3 times as much as the RX100. It is so big and heavy as a small entry-level SLR with kit lens approximately. Where, then, is the advantage? In the sum of the things. In order to meet the zoom range of the RX with a SLR (mind you with the same quality), needs an SLR generally 2x lenses. But therefore you would both price as well as in weight well above the RX10. A travel zoom lens for SLR would there still an alternative, but first there are the not the same quality with continuous maximum aperture of 2.8, and second is the SLR camera with such a lens together again significantly heavier than the RX10. (At this point, by the way, one wonders inevitably, why is an objective, like that of the RX10 can be bought separately as an interchangeable lens for example. Spiegelose system cameras) in the sum of the properties the RX10 is so superior to a SLR, what picture quality + focal length in concerns relative to the price and weight.
Image Quality:
As with all other properties of the RX10, the image quality is a compromise, but it is also a good one. It would be wrong to assert that the images can keep the quality of her with the pictures of good SLR cameras with good lenses, mind and larger sensors of current generations, or even surpasses them. But it all depends damn near ran for a compact bridge camera with a large zoom. The advantages of a large sensor can be purely physical but simply do not compensate. Size thus plays a major role in this context. To this end, one must also note that by analogy with the small picture format equivalent focal lengths also an indication of the light intensity is only equivalent. Say the f2.8 of f2.8 RX10 does not match the APS-C or full frame camera. In fact, ends up with the same sensor resolution less light on the sensor as the RX10 on a larger sensor, although both take the picture at Aperture f2.8. In terms of resolution and image sharpness the RX10 good cameras with APS-C or full frame sensor is inferior to good lenses. You have to be aware when you buy, otherwise all our other professional cameras would indeed no longer make sense in addition to the RX10.
Nevertheless, the image quality of the RX10 is located excellently and in something at the level of a good SLR in entry-level or mid-range segment.
Handling:
Some certainly some getting used to for me as an old SONY user but not a problem. Well, I think the wheel easily accessible for adjusting the exposure compensation. Given the target audience and their main application area as a travel camera, I think it's very well done. Also good I find the additional display on the top to read the important information.
Feel:
The camera is extremely easy to hold. When the zoom is fully extended, it results in a slight Lastigkeit forward, which further is not annoying but when you hold with 2 hands. Otherwise, the camera feels extremely dibasic.
Zoom:
It's simply an unbeatable advantage when you get up to 200mm and can zoom in again, without having to settle, especially if one even at max. Zoom still the same light intensity is available. Tele Images is shot out of hand just a brand new luxury, I did not know so far.
EVF and display:
Both excellent in quality, but the display I would have liked more adjustment options. It's a mystery to me why the RX10 not a display has, like other cameras that adjust and rotate in any direction can ...
Speed:
In a word: good. Both autofocus, as well as triggering and storing to sequential shots happen all at blazing speed. The only restriction is in low-light, because everything needs a little more time.
Video:
I do not do a lot, but everything I've ever taken on video, was the best thing I've ever seen in the result. Especially the silent zoom and image stabilization are here to be highlighted.
Conclusion:
The ambitious photographer who thinks he could sell all its other cameras and replace equivalent by the RX10 is mistaken and will continue to be disappointed at the end.
The one who is looking for a compact, mobile solution with the highest quality and great flexibility, whether as a complement to existing equipment or as stand-alone solution, we love it.
Any user who in the past "only" a compact camera, an older bridge model or an older SLR had with average kit lens will not be trusted in any case his eyes, how big is the increase in image quality.
