Customer Review

I grew up from the 500D to 70D in December-2013. (The 500D I use too)
After nearly a year I would like to briefly use my experiences without sharing every detail of each function to go, the other reviewers have already done. In addition, the Internet is full of reports. (Eg Traumflieger)

First, I have taken to test my existing USM Canon 17-85. I had the 500D as always top. This combination was good, but the 70D I am absolutely thrilled. Only suitable for filming, the USM is rapidly but not completely without noise.

Therefore, I have donated the 18-135 STM to. On the one hand because of the quasi inaudible AF, on the other hand because of the longer focal length. Not bad, for sure filming the first choice in the 70D. When shooting through the viewfinder but every shot is a hit. (The Canon 17-85 USM is as safe) I do not know, is it the AF or the stability of not always want? Mind you, the rejection rate of this lens is also not high, but higher than the 17-85 USM. Maybe I caught only a Monday part.
Here the camera is to be assessed, not the lens. Just wanted to mention, as the 18-135 STM is also offered as kit for 70D.

THE CAMERA:

Is really a panacea when it comes to features. Because it is some higher-class Canons equal or even superior. Very fast. The operation is due to well arranged buttons and wheels and last but not least the excellent touchscreen to quickly grasp. Using the touch screen, almost all functions can be accessed, making the existing knobs almost superfluous. Despite much more functions compared to the 500D easier to handle. The menu is similar but the 500D has even in some respects a help. I knew not at the 500D.
Wireless off camera flash, even flash groups to the camera set. But there is no wireless flash, is optically transmitted via the internal. (Speedlite flashes or other suitable)

HDR:

The 70D also has a camera on board Internal HDR.
HDR Backlight (RAW, JPG)
"Normal" HDR "(only in JPG!), Three images in a row are offset from the camera spreading:. Auto, +1, +2, +3 selectable.
Who wants it even better: * DSLR Controller (with WIFI or OTG cable with Android devices) has even better opportunities, but will be charged with external software.

THE WIFI function:

makes the package really about. Not only wireless data transmission, but also control of tablet or smartphone possible. With the (Android app) * DSLR CONTROLLER Camera can not only be controlled, but adds other interesting possibilities. HDR, Focus Stacking, Time Lapse, etc.

BATTERY:

by holding long. Who still has a full second battery in your pocket does not necessarily require a battery grip. (Who only works with LV: because it will be different, active WIFI also needs electricity!)

ERGONOMICS:

Well-molded, balanced body lies comfortably in the hand. Fits very well to the weight of the camera, together with ordinary lenses. (No meter lenses) The thumb rest might be a little deeper. For my hand anyway. Program selection, menu and info button not need in active use (the lie to the left of the viewfinder), all other buttons and wheel can easily be reached with the right hand.

THE MOST IMPORTANT:

If you do everything right, super bell clear images! Exactly what we want, but we also spend the money.

The crux:

It describes how the AF is weakening by the search for bright lenses in the middle sensor.
Can be read!
Unfortunately, I could only test with since my single bright lens: Canon EF 50mm 1:. 1.8 II And that's inherently a bad lens. Here the 70D almost never meets in bad light at f 1.8. Not even with the other focus areas. Only in good light (sunny day) in LV an acceptable result. Here the 500D comes (only about 50%) along better. Wanted to have mentioned only those who have the 70D has or wants to buy and the Canon EF 50mm 1: 1.8 II toying: No better not. With this lens, I can neither confirm the problem but did not refute. So this section is in terms of AF weakness of 70D on my part not very helpful.

THE 70D level model?

Yes and no! In principle I find the camera, thanks to the two dials provide convenient and the touch screen easier to use than a three or four-digit EOS. A bloody novice is killed by the many possibilities of the 70D but quickly. Often resulting in that you quickly lose interest or even capitulated. Such cameras we find on Ebay again.

Who photographed only with automatic or scene modes can also with cheaper classes. They are also good! Manual shooting has to be learned. These entry-level models are exactly suited. Then it's only once: practice, practice, practice!
Prefer to invest the money saved in accessories. I recommend an external flash (eg the Canon Speedlite 430 EX II), the Internal is more of an emergency light. Or a clever lens. If you think you master the camera and the virus has broken out, still remains the option to ascend. The accessories can continue to use, yes.
Unlike lenses, camera bodies are not very stable in value. The 70D is also not far to have on the market, but already cheaper than a year ago.
I have some analogue SLR cameras. Everything was sometimes good, so I've learned, but the trend is just further is analog out. My first (beginners D-SLR) was the 500D. With whom I have tasted new blood and am now come to the 70D. I can still not be separated from the 500D.

MANUAL:

The detailed manual in printed form is in four languages.
Tip:
The still much detailed online handbook can be found at Canon for download. (.pdf)
Here still undecided, the numerous functions of the 70D explore beforehand.

MY CONCLUSION:

I have tested with the part (70D) intensively, tried, snapped, compared and sometimes photographed properly. ; O) Not only with the lenses contained herein. I keep discovering new possibilities, I'm not finished with it.
Of course I do not have laboratory conditions!
I love this part of my ambitions and eventually change to the full-frame have been displaced by years. Had again sauteuer and I do not see any more profit. Maybe it's my last camera, I'm 50 and not a professional. Better to invest again in lenses. The camera can really be described as semi-professional.

Nevertheless, a star away! The information policy of Canon is to say the least, not only bad, but virtually nonexistent. Here is not only silent but silent dead, a statement from Canon regarding the AF weakness in high-speed lenses to the 70D, I have not yet found. The forums are full of the subject, also TF has not. Too bad.
