My conclusion use ANALOG
================
I originally bought the lens for my analog EOS 1V and 1N and was able to achieve good results in combination with Fuji Velvia right films and 4,2d film scanner here. The excellent autofocus of 1V works wonderfully together with this lens. Also in use with 1N there are little to complain about. The much commented on in Network occasional vignetting with an attached hood, I regret to confirm. I have the lens hood (if possible) not used. In a few cases I had Vignettierungsprobleme without lens hood (Aperture 4.0 at 24mm). The below-noted sharpness weaknesses are less noticeable than in the digital application for analog use for me. From the feeling I would but that traced back to film, scan software and scanner technology.
My conclusion use DIGITAL
================
I tested the lens with the EOS 5D Mark II extensively. Especially with Aperture 4.0, I even have to realize 100 weaknesses in sharpness at ISO (compared to other lenses in the same ISO / aperture values). From 5.6 it gets better. Occurring vignetting can be with the 5D Mark II camera side out count very well. Its "L" strengths plays from the lens at high f-numbers in combination with long exposure times. Here I have (assuming Manual Clearing of "thin" EOS 5D Autofocus) even at very low light situations can achieve excellent imaging results. With extreme backlight (halogen headlights or streetlights in wet weather), the lens tends to reflex and Streulichtanfäligkeit.
Conclusion TOTAL
================
Canon's promise of low Blendenreflex- and stray light susceptibility is not fully complied with. Especially with high-contrast night shots here reach other objectives better results. Nevertheless, it is quite suitable for the night / tripod use. "Tons of issues", which are often criticized in the net, I can not confirm. The IS power in situations where it is needed really enjoy and like the light of the objective of a little weakness. Focus problems can be personalized with aperture and Bel. Offset time.
Vignetting depends on the respective camera. For small EOS models, such as EOS 450D barely visible (sensor).
If you are looking for the "bright sun holiday" a great L Travel Zoom, which will be perfectly happy with this lens.
Who sometimes has to deal quickly with very unusual motifs and lighting conditions as street photographer, who was to have this as an option in the lens maximum luggage.
If you are traveling with a tripod in the night, which is able to achieve very good results with a 16 "eye for stray light dangers" and from Aperture.
Who photographed preferably Portraits, which should be eh 'view a fixed focal length.
FINAL TIP:

Aperture 4.0 omit general and from Aperture 5.6 photograph incl. IS.

I will definitely keep my EF 24-105 L. I like the zoom range and put it in where I can compensate for its shortcomings.
As Canon's highly praised "L" lens, it has weaknesses which must necessarily be considered critical in this price range.
I would (if possible) awarded 3.5 stars. But Amazon allows only full star ...
Therefore, more of a rounding down to 3 stars for the Canon EF 24-105mm / 4 / L

I've tried all the important information about the EF 24 - to put 105 in these reviews because I could not find a compact and independent description of the network even before buying this lens. Case Studies in forums are almost always "Bla-Bla discussions" to highly technical individual values and of course user-dependent. My subjective conclusion is hopefully helpful.
