Customer Review

In the summer of 1979, I have the Talking Heads experienced at a rock festival in Scotland on stage. At many concerts I can still remember as very good or miserable. The appearance of the American New Wave band has left almost no trace in my memory. Probably I felt him as just average. Similarly, I feel with this live double album of the band. Compared to the double vinyl of 1982, the double CD contains 12 previously unreleased tracks. Three titles - "Psycho Killer", "Stay hungry" and "Drugs" - are the same documents twice. The second disc, the recording of "Remain in Light" tour of 198o / 81 contains, sounds to me this far more interesting than the rather raw and immature therefore coming songs from the early years of the band, with which CD 1 comes up. The partially ans Hysterical bordering song David Byrne on the first disc requires the handset to life quite a bit of tolerance. These are all the more as the songs created some quite weird and rhythmically complex. On CD 2 the music is accessible, even danceable. This has mainly to do with the increasing funk influences to the compositions of the quartet, but also the increased touring band. Especially the great Nona Hendryx and Dolette McDonald and Bernie Worrell enrich with their backing vocals to sound the Talking Heads. The band sounds so smooth and the singing Byrnes looses its exaltation. In addition, the songs gain through the use of additional percussion instruments to rhythmic finesse. The best example here is the fascinating "I Zimbra" and - not to forget - the only foreign composition of the double album, Al Green's "Take me to the river". As can be seen, I would also be able to live quite well without CD 1; therefore ultimately only an average rating.
