LANG: Tjaa ... what can you say about such a program? It's not and it does not go without. Meanwhile, I have already produced a few HD movies and so it has set a certain "Workflow", but many hairs are on the way gray. But in order.
The functionality is top notch for the price. Many simple and intuitive functions make the tailoring a partially correct fun affair. The learning curve is nearly 0, you can start immediately.
My absolute favorite is the automatic stabilization, with the looks suddenly shot like a tripod even the shaky recording. This feature as standard not even many "large" programs such as Premiere Pro or Vegas. So you can even record from a moving car and the result looks incredibly professional. Smaller Wizard as the title editor or the slow-motion function (with interpolated images) complete the picture.
So. Now comes the hammer. The developers have still not managed to eradicate the numerous bugs in previous versions. I have rarely seen in my entire IT career as an extremely error-prone program. All the more incomprehensible, since it encompasses almost all bugs to deal with a few tricks.
I just'll start ...
* Several additional functions (stabilization) are only compatible with the MPEG2 HDV output codecs. All other produce artifacts. Solution: In HDV (720 or 1080) to render and compress afterwards with Any Video Converter (free) as a DivX or H.264
* Movies over 5 minutes in length can not be rendered on "Produce" rule, otherwise the program crashes on C ++ Library / Runtime Error from. Solution: Batch Production
* When AutoSave is enabled and you do not keep straight during a Autosaves the mouse still, but worked some snippets from the program crashes virtually always. Solution: turn off autosave.
* Random crashes happen about every 1-2 hours. Always nice save!
* While many crashes PD deletes all project files edited completely (!). To this end, I recommend the free Recuva, which can reconstruct deleted data on your hard drive. But not always. So always save project files (.pds) to external drives, NEVER on C :.
* The Extra-preview for HD movies brings barely visible benefits and burdens the computer tremendously. Better off.
* For longer projects Soundgraph should be turned off, it also burdens the computer a lot.
* The management of RAM, page file and temporary files is a disaster. Even the smallest actions sometimes bring and for no apparent reason, the hard disk to minutes as stupid herumzurödeln while the program depends. Solution: always restart Windows between different projects. Top edit no more than 200 HD clips or 20 minutes per project. With Any Video Converter can later merge multiple files again.
Conclusion:
Using these homemade tricks the program can actually use very well. Nevertheless, there is a huge imposition of the manufacturer to make search with data recovery programs its deleted files after the users and otherwise also every few minutes to leave the service. There are 2 star deduction. Another star deduction there, given that some small things missing. So lacking a global master sound track as well as the ability to transfer an action to several selected clips at the same time, what a lot of extra work will cost.
