I have an old Sony Cuber-shot DSC-P52 which was limited to 128 MB of memory (original sony stick) which required me to periodically empty the device (not very practical).
After research I purchased this memory stick Pro Duo and the Hama adapter - Memory Stick Duo Adaptor Pro and Duo for my device; mounting 2 Mn and everything works nickel. Now I can take + or 2000 pictures without having to worry about the remaining memory.
