Customer Review

As MIA. fan you are of course biased - towards the more recent albums of the band usually negative, since they turn the pop after ingenious wayward first album more and more. But after me personally inconsistent "Chinese Whispers" and here and there to maybe something playful "circus" put MIA. an album which has really unexpected qualities: It is danceable, and takes you along the most surprising: It is grim!

After "Chinese Whispers", where she was only represented in its infancy, more anger as an emotion from MIA.s music and was replaced by a verkopfteren and verherzteren dealing with rejection and disappointment. "Welcome to the Club" takes these experiences into his innermost being. Where "circus" came along yet clear as a bell and open the "Club" significantly cryptic. Starting with the opener "Captain", a love song about seeing the world from different perspectives. At the same verses, however, are filled with urgent discords, something is not here and the text reinforced the feeling with the beach-metaphors - the sea is restless, a storm is approaching.

In particular, "mice" embodies this gloom. "The cat can not tear yourself away from", "Have your free Monster" - a sense of discomfort, even violence, is in the background. These lines and the excellent transport instrumentalization fundamentally traumatic self experiences. Even probably the most direct love song, the closing "The view" has nothing to do with green meadows, butterflies and flowers à la "Uhlala", rather with a tight, slow dance in the twilight, a happy arrival in the dark.

You can imagine how disappointed I was when I "my friend" saw the official music video for the first single. Again smiles Kitty unconcerned gently into the camera as she sings, which is actually a dramatic text by a man who can catch of his demons. We can only hope that the band for future singles recognizes the gloom of their new creation and with more courage creates sinister videos. Because the album has a dark heart and but in the right place. It is MIA.s selbstsicherstes, einheitlichstes and undoubtedly the best album since "Slashing & Stichfest" and musically the best thing I've heard from -EP the band since the "what it is".
