I have this MicroServer HP bought because I so wanted to build a FreeNAS to replace and supplement the existing USB hard drives. To my delight, I found that upgrading is easy and relatively fast. A small point of criticism are the hard drive bays which can get caught once and then can be removed only with a lot of feeling again. Otherwise, the structure clear and an upgrade to 8GB ECC RAM without problems is possible. I had to buy the same once 4x2TB hard drives and made sure that you can use this as possible with 7200 U / min and 24-hour operation. I use a USB flash drive with 4GB of memory and 8GB of RAM to boot the Freenas and the remaining plates give then in Raid Z 5.2 TB of storage. All in all I can only recommend this MicroServer. Further applications with ESXi I have not tried it yet but should be no problem. Also, the data throughput is good and leaves no wish unfulfilled. A clear recommendation for all those wishing to use ZFS at a reasonable price (in conjunction with Freenas) but I also think that the other applications are absolutely quite possible.
