The device makes a very beautiful and well-made impression. Both hard drives are on a bracket with a little jerk / train from the device to remove (there are 2 x WD Red drives). If both slots are empty, you can see in the middle of the board with the processor it. The unit has no on / off switch and is about the software off (power-up does it only when the plug is pulled and plugged back :(). The device can be accessed via the WLAN IP (ie similar to a router). Wifi Switch on and in the browser the IP enter (198145 ....), then you get the so-called. Dashboard. This is nothing like the unit's settings (cloud access, authorization management, informative, e-mail notifications about the status, etc. ).
My experiences so are as follows:
IPad 4: granted without problems on the available Apps Access
IPhone 6: granted without problems on the Apps Access
MacBook Pro Late 2013: no automatic install on the service on the website software (service request running -> Again, this was possibly in the topic Enable UPnP)
Windows computer: no problems about the products featured on the site software available. It should be noted that there is the software SmartWare for Windows WD which is not available for OS X, pity.
My first attempt to set up the cloud with the MacBook Pro based on the WD software is therefore failed. I then loaded the software for Windows WD on my Windows computer and install the cloud from there. If everything works perfectly as listed in the description. Then I had an account set up with WD with my email and a password. This is then confirmed and from now you have access to its cloud. Now I could set up access my Macs manually. This then works. The device must be plugged in using the supplied cable on Lan router that should be noted (at first I thought it would be possible to place after installing the unit in a location other than the router, no. The cable is about 0.5 meters long ).
The device is about hand-hot and in complete silence is clearly the fan heard that starts with using. The airflow is from the bottom up, so the unit should be only used on hard surfaces and must not, for example. Oä on the couch. stand and possibly sink and be no air sucked. The plates and the entire device moves (depending on the setting in the Dashboard) for a period to be set in the sleep mode, then jumps back to without a murmur.
The speed of reading and writing is certainly variable as routers and web connection represent etc., other parameters are as dependent. I've had enough of. The unit is 1 set before the mode RAID, which means everything is uploaded to the first hard disk is automatically copied to the second. This can be changed in order to obtain dual memory, but the principle would preclude Mirror (double data backup).
I have also had the backup in the Apple's Time Machine problems. As I said my MacBook did not talk to the cloud. So I contacted support and they responded within 24-hours. They pointed me to the park and the firewall to enable the UPnP (whatever that is'). The latter is activated in the modem / router. Lo and behold ... now also has Time Machine discovers the Cloud and talks to her. Backup of Macs has therefore also works.
Otherwise the device will rel. is easy to use, I give five stars, because I think if I can do it, get it other also. Since the support quickly responds and asks the right questions make this even inexperienced like me. It should be noted that you have to also register on the Web site for support. What other companies yes is true.
So all in all very happy with my first NAS.
