The light makes at first glance a very good impression, material and processing high-quality appearance.
The brightness impressed when turning. Needless to say that the 5000 lumens can be achieved only in the imagination of the manufacturer.
A measurement showed that the light in the highest level takes about 14 watts of electrical power.
After the current technical standards gives the 1500lm than theoretical maximum limit.
The true lumen is likely therefore between 1000 - 1500 lumens move.
The light beam is divided into two clearly identifiable areas, an inner, narrow and bright beam of light and a broader, weaker, outer cone.
Personally, I find this very illumination succeeded the inner area lights the way even good in 20m distance, and the weaker the field, can also detect short-range good.
For further investigation, I have broken down the lamp, which is no problem thanks to the fittings.
At the front fall after removing the metal frame as well as the same cover glass, gasket and reflector contrary.
The two boards on which are mounted the LEDs, wiggle loose and be prevented only by the connection cables from falling out.
Here are revealed already the first technical defects. The LED boards are pressed only at a narrow edge to the metal housing.
There was no thermal paste or even thermal adhesive used for cooling an LED absolutely insufficient.
Rubber rings between cover glass and metal frame are only to press the LED board and pose no obstacle to the penetration of moisture is.
On the back of the light (cable feeder with switch) sits the complete control electronics.
It is separated by the blue rubber plate of the metal cover.
But again, the rubber sheet does not really protect against moisture. In heavy rain I had my concerns.
The control board has no detectable thermal coupling to the LED or to the housing (except for the air in the lamp),
what made me doubt already here on a thermal protection.
In a subsequent test at the highest level without light wind, the lamp house was so hot that it automatically retracts the fingers when touched. To all appearances, was here completely dispensed with overheat protection and put a premature aging of the LED consciously.
As long as one is on the move, the cooling seems sufficient at least for autumn and winter outdoor temperatures ;-)
Next, I have decided the supplied battery, allegedly with 6400mAh.
Did (fully charged and then discharged with constant 2A to protective shutdown) but yielded only 2200mAh.
An absolutely miserable value for a battery pack of this size. The same capacity you get loose out already with two cells.
Unfortunately, that was not my first bad experience of this type with low lighting, where the batteries are included.
In itself it is not surprising, because the battery pack with these technical values alone already cost more than these lights incl. Batteries.
But nevertheless, you will obviously cheated systematically :-(
Normally I would have the lamp returned again, but for deliveries from China is me too expensive.
If I order the next time directly from China, I'll do the same on DealExtreme.
DX seems now to review the technical specifications of their suppliers and also, if necessary, correct.
I would have honestly expected Amazon :-(
Pro:
- Operating modes are well graded by the brightness without annoying strobe effect
- Good illumination, with large long-range effect
- Compact design with good stable mounting
Cons:
- Battery is brand-new special
- No protection against overheating
- Not waterproof, maximum splashproof.
Conclusion:
Miracles are rare. And that you get quality at a bargain price, apparently even rarer.
Especially sad, I find that this design clearly with simple and inexpensive means would still could be improved.
A larger contact surface with the LED board, a little thermal paste, temperature monitoring and really dense rubber would hardly have been more expensive and would have helped a lot.
So one can only conclude that this light is really cheap and suitable for short distances.
Who but longer or regularly drives at night, which should rely on a solid offer with a good battery, or at least have a spare lamp case.
