Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - a much better Tri

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - [Nintendo 3DS] (Video Game)

Customer Review

I refer this review on the differences between Monster Hunter Tri for Wii and this new installment of the series.

Story:
The story is basically the same as in MH Tri. The hunter (ie the player) arrives in the village of Moga and to ensure the safety there. The monster that is the villagers prepare the biggest concerns of Lagiacruz whose home is the sea. So is the hunter train sometime to draw the sea monster from circulation.
As in previous Monster Hunter titles, the story is rather bad, but also not the main focus in these games. Therefore, it also takes little to no influence on the final result.
Story: 1/5

Graphics:
The style has remained the same but I find that the textures and animations much softer and smoother run than on the Wii. The regions, the hunter and the monsters are no longer so pixelated, which may be due to the small screen. However, as with Tri is the case that from time to time, the text in the dialog boxes is quite illegible. Because I would have liked to improve.
For 3D effect: This is really well designed. The HUD and the mailboxes are on a pleasant low-grade and not stand out so blatant as in other games. The hunting grounds look very good in 3D.
Graphics: 4/5

Sound:
The sound is good as in Tri. The soundscape adjusts to the areas in which you have just walking around. It shows the sound directly whether straight is a big monster in the vicinity. As in its predecessor, the dialogues are not set to music, it's only to hear an unintelligible mumble. I do not mind that, but also do not like any.
Sound: 5/5

Gameplay:
In Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate again all about the hunt monsters.
The principle is very simple: It is a quest of the hunter guild counter and starts it. It is transported to the hunting area and then has a certain amount of time to solve the task. With the progress of playing time is always unlocks difficult quests.
Quests:
On the whole, there are 4 types of Quest.
1. Hunting Quests: As it comes to the hunt of big monsters. Initially, only one each quest, but later 2 or more.
2. Catch-quests: Here you have to catch big monster.
3. collecting quests: Here you have to collect items.
4. Kill quests: Here you have to do a certain number of smaller monsters.
Difficulty:
As in previous Monster Hunter titles is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate very demanding. For newcomers to the series, it may be frustrating, however, is precisely the difficulty something that Monster Hunter accounts. If you switch a new big monster free, it is first the movements and attacks of the monster to study so as not to be in the dust after 5 minutes. Also you should take your time, because it may well be that you can hew to a monster half an hour or more without tipping it.
Hunting areas:
All areas of Tri exist in Ultimate. In addition, there are 3 new hunting grounds. As in Tri these are divided into smaller areas and numbered on the map. You can hunt during the day and at night, which can partly changed the territories or other monsters appear.
Spearfishing:
This is in Ultimate again one of the party. Man swims in the direction in which the camera looks. Without Circle Pad Pro that can be quite annoying, but this is in boss battles less of an issue because there is a new feature which allows you can aim at a big monster. One must then briefly tap the L button, and the camera turns back to the monster.
Weapons:
There are the following types of weapons:
Sword and shield, double blades, Great Sword, Long Sword, Hammer, Hunting Horn, lance, gun lance morph ax, Light Crossbow, Heavy Crossbow and bow.
Here is something for everyone here and the various types of weapons also play completely different. For example, the large sword and the hammer are quite slow, have much reason for damage, however, the double blade or shield and sword are very fast. Man alone can defeat any monster with each weapon, so you can free to taste and playing style choose his weapon.
Last but not least, the fighting:
That what you do most of the time in this game, fight. The battle system is the same as in its predecessors. You fight in real time against one or several monsters. Might sound boring, but is anything but that. The 12 types of weapons and many monsters no fight is like the previous one. One has to think carefully about when to attack more or evades / blocks. Any mistake can be fatal and so Mausche fights are pure adrenaline through the high degree of difficulty.
Gameplay: 5/5

Scope:
The scope in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is enormous. Here are a few figures (left Tri, right Ultimate):

Little Monsters: 17/22
great monsters: 18/50
Total Monster: 35/72
Quests: 128/339
Types of weapons: 12/7

In addition, more than 2,000 new pieces of equipment WC. Another new feature is that the single player mode (the village of Moga) now are also high-rank quests. In Tri it was this only in online mode. In addition, the G-Rank quests are back. These are available only in Multiplayer "port". These are the most difficult in the game. Anyone who has played Tri and there are several hundred hours of play together, can double invest in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to three times as much time.
Size: 6/5 :-)

Multiplayer:
Unfortunately, there is no online multiplayer for the 3DS version of the game. However, it is locally U users play with other 3DS or Wii the game in multiplayer mode. There you can go with up to 4 players on hunting monsters. But you can also play all the quests from the multiplayer alone. Since these are designed for groups but these are much more difficult than in the offline mode. The hunting and gathering with friends is great fun and is in my opinion the best aspect of the game. As I understand it, a patch will be submitted in April, with which you can also play with the 3DS online. For this, however, you need a Wii U as an intermediary. For people with Wii U sure quite amusing, but for people without (like me) the bringts not.
MP: 4/5

DLC:
Even the launch there was DLC. These include 1 Event Quest, 5000 commodity points and 3 tracks. All this is available for free. Capcom plans to release new quests and extras regularly. Until now, each DLC for free, I would be surprised if they will require at Ultimate something.

Edit 02/04/2013
I am now at about 70 hours of play, have (unfortunately alone because no Multiplayer via Internet possible) noticed all low-level quests in single player behind me and also a bit angetestet the multiplayer quests and me are still a few things:
The low-level quests are much lighter than in Tri that has several reasons:
- It now begins with 50 additional points armor and gets so less damage
- Some big monster were extremely defused. As an example I take the Barroth here. Anyone who has played Tri know this until he was downright angry could hurl through the whole card died a. In MH3U but his movement speed was slowed and increases the time between its attacks, making a lot easier to defeat him.
These changes make it easier for newcomers straight in the series. However, I found the low-level quests rather boring.

Another change is the hunter rank in multiplayer. In Tri you had to erfarmen by repeatedly completing quests points by one rank to rise and so unlock new quests. The whole thing was rather cumbersome and took a while. In MH3U one must (as in MHFU for PSP) do some important quests and so on freely by one rank rise an urgent quests and so unlock a new quest stage. Only when you reach Rank 9 (the last stage of the Quest G Rank quests) accesses the system from Tri So where every quest brings points and so you can continue to increase its rank. They then switched to continue individual quests free to rank 100 (but no more Quest Level)

Conclusion: Anyone who thinks Ultimate is just a revamped Tri in 3D, is mistaken. Ultimate is worth every penny. I can put any fond, who likes challenging battles and a true 'hunter-gatherer' is. Even for beginners in the MH-universe!
