Reasons why I switched (after one year 800 use)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Live tracking useful because I always drive alone. If what happens, my wife can locate me / pass pick up / position. Is peace of mind for me and it (Previously Endomondo Live tracking). Live tracking and BigBrother: Routes land anyway at 99% of the people in Endomondo, Strava, RideWithGps and the rest of them.
- Activities are AUTM. uploaded -> no annoying USB cable to connect to each trip
- Transfer planned routes and wireless -> no annoying USB connect cable before (almost) every ride
For me personally, the reasons were to upgrade. Display + battery is perfectly fine. Full HD AMOLED and 2 weeks duration need not really. Before the Edge 810 was announced, I was on the verge of switching to a 100 Euro smartphone incl. Selbstbau holder + additional cheap contract with Internetflat
03/01/2013 - First observations (FW: 2.30)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Small bar to down Collen with important information (time, temperature, compounds such as Android, the top bar to pull down) -> cool and very convenient
- Entire Menu structured much better
- GPS reception better: 3-4 800 satellite at the window, 810er 6-7 satellites at the window (tested both units side by side)
- On top of the screens with the Datenfledern the lower bar is no longer visible (Menu button and the buttons) ... You have to click on the area there appears a two a crevasse Menu
- Many logical progress in the UI, all of which I can not list them here ... but after one year of use of the 800's is always the feeling: "Ah not bad, finally usefully implemented here on the spot!"
- Maps (OpenMTBmap, have 3 installed) in the system settings and not de- activated (Runs through profiles -> sensible and practical)
- Live tracking works great. The one who gets the link looks on his smartphone a customized mobile version: Very cool!
- A news comes on the Edge display when the phone battery has little juice

First conclusion
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All in all, a UI which would already have to be realized. These "innovations" have other manufacturers at times old Symbian smartphones (S40 and S60, whosoever still knows ;-)) long lived through.
I feel that Garmin has evolved as its UI in a sandbox and long completely overslept tested usability on similar devices. The UI in the 810er is definitely another milestone on the devices I tested EDGE: 200, 500 and 800 now 810er
Combination Smartphone + Edge 810
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Got myself for my exits a Huawei X3 and a data flat rate for 0 Euros / month in 24 months (500mb throttled thereafter, sometimes there than action at resellers). Can hear a live stream then while driving and have my e-mails and connect to the Edge 810 on board.

03.03.2013 - Update 1 (2 days use)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- It may profiles are created that contain all settings. Have created two profiles with different data fields, views, activated cards and System Settings -> extremely practical. A profile with OpenMTBMap and settings for a relaxing tour of Forest & City, and a profile for RACE training, with other card and all other data fields such as the tours go
- Battery life with Bluetooth enabled as its predecessor the 800. Possibly slightly shorter but subjectively for me no difference.
Here small battery usage experience:
- Sat, 9 Mar 2013 19:09 - 0:50:01 h, 15,20 KM
- Sat, 16 Mar 2013 14:17 - 2:04:24 h 40,10 KM
- Mon, 18 Mar 2013 13:46 - 0:35:09 h, 4.76 KM
- Fri, 22 Mar 2013 13:37 - 1:38:32 h, 30,76 KM
- Tue, 26 Mar 2013 14:46 - 1:25:20 h, 29,49 KM
- Thu, 28 Mar 2013 16:37 - 1:38:20 h, 32,55 KM
Total = 152.85 km and 8:11:47 h: m: s, rest BATTERY: 7%
Each trip with live tracking and partly with map display / data fields (50/50, OpenMTBMap) and display at 10% -40%. Switched on before the rides each 10-15 minutes left until the start. So again about 1 hour to at Laufzeit.Bei my driving behavior has the Edge 1-2 times a month at the outlet. My old 800 had each time after driving to the USB for transmission and was always fully charged. In the summer when it is lighter, you can set the display to 0% brightness, then it stops determines again an hour or two longer.
Is As mentioned in the other reviews, many bugs are the EDGE 810 unfortunately still exist, despite now some updates for the 810er (Current FW 2.70). I'm counting on those who annoy me the most concern and:
- Exit route does not work 100% (turn by turn sometimes come randomly and sometimes not at all more)
- (Freezes rarely (mostly but when leaving the track, however, at 2.70 FW does not happen)
- Settings sometimes have no effect (you have repeatedly turned on and OFF again, then it goes)
- When you plan a route using Garmin Connect, then it can happen that the forwards 810er instead of the drawn route calculated a direct route from the start and the end point. If the route is a circular route, it is particularly annoying.
Since the elementary functions of the "descendants route / lowering" not working properly, I give you a star deduction.
However, what works perfectly and which I use often:
- View route and depart WITHOUT turn by turn
- Navigate your way to a certain point (with turning instructions)
- As soon as measurement error and super reception (in the forest) 6-12 meter inaccuracy
- GPS Fix always under 10 seconds (Always the same starting point)
- Barom. Altimeter perfectly
- Live tracking works very well (with HTC Wildfire S and Cyanogenmod 10.1)
- Pulse
05/09/2014 - Update 4 (over 1 year use)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is now more than a year ago and the firmware 2.90, and 3.00 has directed final. The features I described above go now very good. However, one must still the "Routes descendants" off automatic recalculation, otherwise navigated the Edge to a recently leaving the route or if one takes a turn right back to the end point, which is very annoying in a circuit.
In fact, Garmin has one year needed for the unit to work properly.
I use the 810er now with an HTC Wildfire S on the is the newest model for this Android 4.2.2 (CyanogenMod) have installed. Then the Garmin app runs perfectly and also the pairing works very reliably. Tip: If the Edge is not connecting times, just run the app. Sometimes Android kills the process of Garmin APP and the connection is not performed.
what can I say! NOW 5 star, but again I make this Beta phase with Garmin not scanned again :-)
