I was immediately attracted by the title and the prospect of combining narrative prose and the world of Jane Austen with a police plot, although personally, this is the first book I read PD James .
In the end I was a little disconcerted by this reading. While the characters in Pride and Prejudice are present, they lost their depth. Elizabeth, for example, finds himself confined in second place, and seemed very fragile and well off ... I do not remember any of that! And she is not the only one in history to lose in substance. The more a pretext or context, a real dive in the atmosphere and the world of this author. Jane Austen so flat side.
Side plot, again it's pretty bland and there is no real investigation. The story seemed too "organized": murder, guilty, a trial that does not add much, a letter that explains everything back to normal. It's like jerky, it's pretty slow, it does not happen much ... Nothing really panting or thrilling and it's not what I expect from a detective novel.
This is still an enjoyable read, writing is not at all unpleasant, society and the judicial system of the time are fairly well exposed, but ... careful not to place too many expectations in this book . So I recommend reading rather summer / vacation.
