Our charcoal starter has made many runs behind and always a good Figut. For small quantity of coal, z. B. when lighting a Smokers, you have to cheat a little. But if it is half full or more to get there by 3-4 Anzündwürfeln and in 20 minutes the charcoal hot.
Important: be breathing 5 minutes, the charcoal in the grill approx. Otherwise, the coal nipped in kettle grill. In the chimney the coal is very well supplied with oxygen. If in a kettle grill lid is then closed circumstances change so rapidly, so that the coal runs out
Ignition behavior

Coal does not behave the same. So ignite briquettes from lignite (Weber) is much heavier than coal from wood (z. B. Dancook). Normal charcoal ignites easiest.
Then the ignition behavior is of course determined by the degree of humidity. If it smokes, then the coal is usually wet and heavy fires.
Which take charcoal?
--------------------
Short time grilling - ordinary charcoal.
Longer Grill Sessions - briquettes.
Long-term jobs indirectly - briquettes.
Personally, I avoid the use of Baunkohlebriketts with possible direct contact of the food being grilled with charcoal. But if it is very cold, or we use our Dutch-Oven, then I take it already. We grill 365 days a year.

Flat grilling with many people on a 57er Grill: a full fireplace
Chicken on the spit or Beer-can-Chicken: distributed half a fireplace in two grill baskets.
Duck on the spit: A three part four fireplace in two coal baskets.
Roast beef: Low and slow: A quarter fireplace in a coal bin. (Searing directly; the rest indirectly)
All with wooden briquettes.
