With the aim of my 240l Juwel Aquarium convert to LED lighting I ordered this LED strip. It offers over most competitors twice the number of diodes per meter and thus double the light output. In addition, it has grown quite well through the silicone layer of water evaporation. You just have to clean it frequently and to avoid clouding of the silicone. I have split the 5m strip on 5 pieces á 1m. This brings me to the amount of light through very well. It's a little darker than before with the two tubes, but the amount of light from the tubes tends to set rather too high, which is reflected for example in the growth of algae. Wherein this but mainly depends on the means of the aquarium (which plants, how many, etc.)! On the "cold-white" light this LED strip for freshwater aquariums is well suited because of algae growth has declined significantly with me and the plants grow faster does not slow or higher, but act stronger.
In addition, I run another 1m RGB strip for color accents that I can control with a Raspberry Pi over the network / Smartphone :) that can simulate the moon in the dark phase, for example, and during the day to change the light color light, which nature comes to meet something.
Total fades away my illumination now about 30W, which corresponds to a consumption of 108W with tubes faces and thus is less than 1/3. The investment has therefore been amortized in 1 year! There are of course ready LED modules - which would, however, cost of a 240L aquarium with these luminous efficiency and the possibilities (additional independently controllable RGB-LED), we prefer to look at not.
