Anticipation was told that I did not play the latest offshoot of the Sim City series from 2013 since I have not irritated or even deterred to small towns and the forced online. Therefore, I can do no comparisons between SimCity 5 and Cities Skylines here. Cities Skylines is the first city builder that I may enjoy in 3D for me. Before that, I really like playing Sim City 4. Now after more than 15 hours of play I would also like to get rid of my opinion on Cities Skylines.

After the first reviews and tests failed very good, I even bought the game two hours before the official release on Steam. So far I have reared a city of about 45 thousand inhabitants in the most painstakingly detailed work. And that's just what I noticed on Cities Skylines on the first day. A city can only function if they also manages well. Building alone is not enough in Cities Skylines to be more successful mayor. My concern that I might be perhaps a bit overwhelmed has, however, quickly disappeared into thin air. In the game you unlock gradually individual functions, building and elements for the infrastructure of a city. A proper tutorial does not deliver the game, but especially in the beginning explain small info window essentials.
The entry occurred to me, as an old Sim City 4 player, very easy and one notices in many places that the developers have picked good of Sim City. So you build his town in the first place by using zones on and supplemented by all public institutions such as hospitals, police stations, schools, etc. The gameplay is so first the same as that of Sim City, which is not at all objectionable. At the same time, however Cities Skylines also introduces new elements. There are, for example, the Info window where you can pretty much see all the relevant information, such as crime rates, health of citizens, availability of schools, etc.. In addition, there are decisions that can have a major impact on city life. It may be decided, for example, that more citizens should attend a university or even that there is no high-rise buildings may be built. On the whole, I can say that I am managing my city like it very much until now. Especially profound micro-management does not yet exist, however. Generally I find it nice to have a little more "tweaking" would be over time. But that can not be.

Particularly is to Cities Skylines that every citizen is simulated individually. Any citizen of the city has a permanent home, a job and goes to leisure activities. This makes the city very much alive. It's great fun to see how people are standing at a bus stop, as they are even picked up from the hearse to wait for the bus (the line connections are individually itself can determine and even must) or when they die (which every citizen realitsgemäß eventually does). In general, the city life seems very realistic. Police and fire sirens, crowds of people, traffic jams, parking cars in the street. It is everything as you imagine it. At the same time, however, everything was done with great attention to detail. So you can see how people sit on the balcony of their house or just go on their driveway to park.

The player's decisions have a major impact on the city happenings. So we can determine, for example, as formed the people in our city are (which is particularly also affects the cityscape; who can afford more, builds accordingly other enclosure) or whether we put emphasis on renewable energy and a beautiful cityscape or want to have an industrial city. Who does not care about his city, quickly gets to feel the consequences. For card size is to say that definitely enough space to build. When you hear the horror stories of Sim City 5, one is quite different. But in Cities Skylines can enjoy themselves at will. My city is 45 thousand inhabitants while no more small town, but there is no end yet in sight. The player is responsible for everything that is part of the urban development. This of course includes the electricity and water supply or waste disposal. The funktioneirt in Cities Skylines all very good. A bit annoying I find the road in Cities Skylines acting still a bit cumbersome. So it may soon happen that a road looks a bit odd mistake. A major problem, however, which did not represent.

It is also worth the Mod-Support. So the game can at any time with new objects (buildings, roads) equip. However, new maps and savegames can be so in the game to implement - and that's just a few clicks via the Steam Workshop. At the same time, the game in addition to a landscape editor, can be created with their own cards, and an object editor, it can be modded autonomously with. The two editor but I have not tried, a multiplayer mode does not offer the game, but what I do not feel as disturbing.

Technically makes the game a very good impression. The game has become very nice graphically and cities look very realistic. But even the little things like the traffic or people on the street look very realistic, so it's fun to zoom in very close, to look at life in the city from nearby (which is also possible without problems). What at this point something disturbs or might disturb some, the blur effect, ie the Verschwimmungseffekt that the engine creates the day. I zoom as close as a road, so obvious buildings are displayed blurry. This lens effect is sometimes a bit annoying, although it is also not a big problem. Nature also provides in Cities Skylines very nice. Landscapes, rivers and lakes make great desire there to build a huge metropolis (where Cities Skylines it lets the players of course completely open whether this will build a metropolis or a quaint little village). The noise background is clear and match the corresponding road events. The music in the game is repeated quickly, but as I always do not attach great importance to the fact I do not mind that. On my now relatively old computers (AMD Phenom II Black Edition 6x3,2GHz, Radeon HD 5770 1GB graphics card, 6GB of DDR3 RAM) runs the game in a mix of medium and low graphics settings passable, and I must also say that my graphics card slightly kontuzi. It is now times a technically demanding game, but that definitely does not need a mega-computer. What impressed me is the fact that this game is very bug free. Of course, there are little things that do not fit. For example, driving from cars and to each other or parking buildings are not right. This is my opinion, but manageable.

Conclusion: The game has me up to now very confident and it's still great fun. The Städtebauen and also the necessary management of the city are great fun. The cities are very realistic simulated, which is also due to the beautiful graphics of course. But the mod support and huge maps are likely to be the reasons why cities skylines should be the new reference in the category Cities Tycoon. Even if I have not played Sim City 5, so I can honestly say that this game does so quite everything right. Doing small things that disturb, not detract.
