Qualities: very light considering the focal length, and especially the comfort of working distance (distance between the front lens and the subject at 1: 1 ratio), 14 cm or better than the Sigma 105 macro and almost as although the 105 micro Nikon VR (15cm). For information, that of the Tamron 90mm VC, which I also used, is identical to that of the Nikon 85mm.
Nothing to say about the autofocus is reasonably fast for a macro use, even if it does not enjoy a limiter.
Autofocus and relatively efficient and silent stabilizer.
The sharpness is mediocre wide open but becomes very good from f / 8 to f / 16 and the images are very detailed.
The big downside concerns chromatic aberration:
This target is afflicted with a longitudinal AC, which appear purple fringing in front and behind the red contrasting parts of the image.
Nikon housings automatically correct lateral chromatic aberration, not the longitudinal AC, hence the need to spend time in post processing with suitable software and might alter the dive.
On a D7000, the default becomes visible in prints beyond 30x45cm. : Dewdrops are purple on one side and red-orange on the other, not to mention the psychedelic aspect antennas butterflies ... I get much better results with a simple 70-300mm VR equipped 'windscreen achromatic 80.
In conclusion, if the priority is to have a very light object, why not.
Otherwise, the Tamron 90mm macro, the price is comparable, offers only advantages: greater openness, better optical quality, coverage of the FX-format ...
Finally, if you are already equipped with a 18-105, 18-140 or 70-300 VR, buying a type of windscreen 500D (with 72-67mm ring), 5T and 6T (with ring 62-67mm) can be better and cheaper.
