Some good things like ... the original dragon which Eragon is the last descendant ... and Dragon-Dragon relationship very interesting and very well written and brought by Paolini, which is itself worth reading this book ...
Still, it is hard not to draw parallels between the battle for middle earth and the war between the Varden and the Empire (he would Paolini also a fan of Star Wars?) Led by Galbatorix (or Darth Vader Saruman?) and it is difficult to match the master when Tolkien was 15 years ...
So the story is quite linear, it follows Eragon and Saphira throughout their adventures through their journey into the mountains of Beors (Mount Doom Frodo) but Paolini Universe does not thick nor the complexity of Tolkien's descriptions of the countries covered are not as extensive nor ... the wealth of the dragon language or relationships "inter-ethnic groups" as rich ...
Still, the book reads well and very (too?) Quickly and we finally pass a great time together Eragon and strap. Certainly not a "monument" of Fantasy (which seems to be fashionable at the moment if one believes the number of film adaptations ...) but I think (hope!) That like good wine shall allow Paolini with time ...
Enjoy Reading,
