Preface: In some reviews of mistake is made crediting the advantages of digital transmission device. I presume: HDMI port and flat screen HD-ready. Then the picture is considerably better than that of analog transmission or scart cable. Receiver could be compared, which is not usually possible only with an identical configuration.
For Philips DCR 5000/02: decent, perfect picture.
Plus: low-power mode, consumption by manufacturers specified under 1 W.
Plus: Good Universal service, with which I can also my Toshiba screen, the DVD player (Philips) and the amplifier (Technics) control well.
Minus: described as several times, the introduction of the smart card is not in alignment with the rear receiving slot. So you have to carefully 'poking around' until the card is seated.
Minus: width 36 cm of the device, so that it fits, like most set-top boxes, not to other HiFi components (it is just a box)! If Philips would have had the courage, the device, as the DVD player to make 43 cm wide, I would place an extra star. Then the device would certainly be lower and would have fit on the shelf.
Minus: In Menu mode, no picture and no sound.
Boot time from low-power mode for about 30 seconds. Switching time between channels about 3 seconds.
It is only a matter to be shaped favorites (space 1- 99) available. This is the certification for KD / Premiere owed (see FAQ Kaufberatung DVB-C receiver in HiFi Forum, issue 16, here: [...]). Obviously to be a kept in mind what you could get for all programs, if you would subscribe only. When you create your own favorite list of inserted transmitter is always set in the first place. Then one must then push each of the approximately 70 stations individually to the desired place. Tip: start with the transmitters for the rear seats, then the shifting effort is not so great!
Note: For non-certified receivers obtained from the network operator no smartcard. This notice I miss many receivers that advertise with hard drive or USB port for external drives and other features. They are not generally certified and can receive only the free programs.
Difference between Philips DCR 5000 and DCR 9000 (except the price) to the technical data on the Philips website: the 5000 has a higher processor speed (266 MHz instead of 166 MHz) and two larger storage: Flash 16MB to 8MB, Video Graphics 64 MB SDRAM to 32MB. The effects I can not judge, because I can not directly compare the equipment. Otherwise, they are identical.
Summary: If you do not want to see the new HD channels from cable 1, Sat 1, Pro 7 and so on: ordinary, everyday use device without outstanding features, but KD-certified! For the new, Nagravision 7.0-encrypted channel not suitable. All necessary cables are included. Installation easy.
