Not a bad reader / hyphenation unusable

After being offered by online retailers of my confidence, I could not resist and have ordered the PRS-T3, with whom I was now able to gather for three days experiences. Below I would like to describe my first impressions. Since I have recently read on the PRS-T1, I put in some instances, comparisons.

PROCESSING

The build quality is impeccable. It creaks nothing, and the materials used feel and quality handschmeichelnd, although (as with today's readers usual) only plastic was used. The matted surface (the black model) is suitable for outdoor use and like much better than the piano finish of T1 me. The cover of the T3 is smooth and looks more durable than that of T1, which had picked up quickly by its porosity. The T3 is a good bit more compact than the T1 advised what suits me. For my taste, it can be still hold good.

SCREEN

The screen is neat, sharp and contrasty. In direct comparison to T1 I hardly see a difference. It may be that the background when T1 is rather gray and beige rather at T3. But that is of no consequence. According to some indications, the contrast of T3 opposite the T2 [sic] should have indeed decreased somewhat. But since I do not have T2, I can not comment. So far I could not have any benefits that arise from the HD resolution of T3 realize. For me it is very positive that Sony has waived the backlight.

The side change takes place without refresh or inversion of the screen (which was the case with T1). This is much faster and also looks better. Some signs that this increases the ghosting. I can not confirm. Who gets problems with ghosting, can activate the refresh in the Options.

FEATURES

Added are Facebook and Evernote connection. I think this is an unnecessary frippery, but does not interfere. Those like me who does not need these functions, they can simply be left. Otherwise there are compared to the T1 done virtually nothing (apart from the hyphenation which I dedicate a separate point). This unfortunately affects also the continuing lack of opportunity to be able to temporarily disable the touchscreen. This desire is expressed for many years; anyone who is the Reader in the summer used outside and confronted with the annoying insects problem, agree. Too bad that Sony ignored this important customer so consistently.

HYPHENATION

In itself, hyphenation is a great thing. It leads to a much more pleasant type area with no gaping holes. The result is thereby much closer to the optics of paper books. Unfortunately, the current separation algorithm is (at least one for the German language) implemented lousy. It teems with nonsensical and false word breaks that disrupt the flow of reading tremendously. Examples:

This really is a very big botch that to make matters worse, not even can leave. So read me makes almost no fun. Here Sony has quickly and urgently make improvements! I wonder also why such obvious, not hidden and extremely easy to reproducing errors in tests not attract attention. One would have the reader with a German text to give a German-speaking readers just 10 minutes into his hand, and it would have stung his eye. Such things are but refrain apparently at the present time for reasons of cost. Since it is sufficient appear when a Chinese factory worker full of pride and euphoria proclaimed the tests were successful because any characters appear on the screen.

CONCLUSION

If the problem with the hyphenation would not, I could recommend the T3. It is a compact, well-made device that copes with the core functions of a reader with no frills (apart from Facebook and Evernote connection) sovereign. Since the T3 handy and faster than the T1, the switch would even be worthwhile.
