So apparently, the Horsemen of the Apocalypse is a spin off series Demonica novels by the same author. I did not know, I did not know and this has not disturbed my reading, so I think you can get started without fear if perhaps is to love and to want to you embark on the "mother" saga. We meet in the novel some characters from the series in question which have pleasantly surprised me. The characters have humor and repartee in fact simply. So if I have to read the urban fantasy, I would start there ... but there is not yet, huh.
As I said, biblical mythology is a topic that interests me and that is what drew my attention to this novel. Of course, Larissa Ione revisits its sauce and made a rather credible job. Reseph, Ares, Thanatos and Limos are the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ... dormant. If their seals were to break, they would fall over the dark side of the force and take their apocalyptic identities or respectively Pestilence, War, Famine and Death. So far, so good.
But from the beginning of the novel, Reseph, the most lovable siblings, sees his seal to break. Became Pestilence, he will not rest to tilt after her brother Ares, which seems to have the easiest seal to destroy. Indeed, it is embodied, after some vicissitudes, Cara, shy young man, frail and downright banal. If the woman dies, the seal breaks. So Ares must protect the young woman and a mutual attachment born between the two main protagonists ... As one would expect.
We also discover in the novel brothers and sister of Ares, which will be the respective heroes of the following novels. Indeed, the author has chosen to write a tome by Cavalier, a tome by "couple", and quite frankly, Ares appears to be the least interesting of the siblings. I await with interest to see what will happen in the author on the other three, and I have a lot of hopes on the second volume, focusing on the fiery Limos.
We also discover the creatures unique to the biblical mythology, such as adorable dogs of hell, the fallen angels, demons, and characters that I think have a much greater importance in the Demonica saga. Finally, War is a good introductory tome. It sets up the universe for both seasoned players and beginners in the genre, like me. I have at no time was lost and I was quickly immersed in the story, which begins pretty quickly and leaves very little downtime. Moreover, speaking of downtime ...
Aleeeeeeerte Pegi 16 flood scenes view, the book is not to put all hands! Well, I do not know if it tantalizes the ladies such scenes, but I found them quite grotesque .... Too much. They make me laugh what. In some fantasy books we read the more raw and friendly in a few lines, there I was bored on two, three preliminary pages seasoned phrases plaguing the atmosphere and made me die laughing. And indeed, it is rather a shame because without it, the novel is altogether accessible to young teen. Well, I guess that's what pleases and the charm of writing Larissa Ione but in my eyes the most negative point of the novel. For me, the erotic here was rather comical, shame! However I enjoyed the "apology" offered by the author: the four Cavaliers are the result of the union of an angel and Lilith, demon succubus, very focused on the thing. And apparently this is something hereditary, ah ah ah!
And since I am, and this is the second negative (directly-connected-to-first) was uuuun little easier, a little flown and somewhat light this whole story between Ares and Cara. The novel that finally some 300 pages and going a little too fast for sexual alchemy love. But it is easy to forgive the author does not dwell on the nascent attachment between the two heroes to focus on the main plot.
If it is these points, I rather enjoyed. Enough to read more, actually, and that's not bad. I have a wild hope that what displeased me will be improved later but surprisingly I do not really believe ... Well, we'll see what will happen in Larissa Ione in the second volume, Famine, which as the name suggests, will focus on Limos.
Also, coverage is quite nice, although I am an unconditional illustrated covers, I must admit that it has its charm. The gold effect is reminiscent of the novels of the month copper Bragelonne and the novel does not swear beside them on the shelves of my library, and that's a good point. I am hard on the covers.
This novel will have me positively discover a new genre. I am far from dropping my pure fantasy and lasts for urban, but I think still finish the saga, if the sequence remains at or improves. For this novel, I detain humor, work on the universe and the adaptation of a myth seen and reviewed in a way that convinced me. For fans of the genre, still prefer to read the notice of urban fantasy readers. But be aware that a non-believer does not hate!
