The first Guns N 'Roses album was indeed at that time already a big piece of rock music. Although this album is classified today rightly as a great rock classics, so at that time was not too much to feel a great success, at least in Europe. The album reached in Germany only number 11 in the album charts in Britain, there was at least in the top ten. In addition, managed with the exception of "Patience" (38th place) no single in the Top 100 of the German single charts. Only four years later published "Use Your Illusion" albums led GN'R world to the top. However, the song material was here not as firm and uncompromising as on the debut album, also reminded some songs in their schmaltzy style of harmless mainstream rockers like Bon Jovi or Europe. The new album goes there now a significantly different way. If you like simple and straightforward rock, which is hardly happy with "Chinese Democracy" probably. Because this album is not exactly easily accessible due to its filigree and nested arrangements. The extremely perfectionist production of Axl Rose is reminiscent of bands like Fleetwood Mac, Supertamp or Steely Dan, which also partially took so many years for an album. However, Axl has probably shot down with more than 10 years of production for "Chinese Democracy" the bird. But the result is also more impressive. The album is like a treasure chest that is superficially apparently filled with metal. So it may be that a hearing by the first still noticed nothing special. But then it just gets better and better with every listen. And the longer allowed to act on itself, the more amazing things come to light. Thus, from the beginning cheesy appearing "This I Love" gradually a very big rock ballad and behind the very complex "There was a Time" will over time more and more instrumental nuances and sophisticated arrangements visible until you this stunning song maybe someday in his full size recorded. The same thing happens to one then gradually also in all other songs and you realize at the end that is included on the album, not a single pen, but that made each song on its own, already represents a small immensely sophisticated rock opus.
The many bad reviews of this album are probably mainly due to the fact, which has now grown a whole generation of young consumers who have never heard a good rock album in her life and now react completely perplexed, because they can not imagine the there have been beyond the current era of plastic dolls and Casting clowns like Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake once a time was made in music by real musicians whose motivation is not exhausted "be somehow famous" in, but driven by real passion and were tried with the music their frustrations, their pain or their desire to express. In addition, one has the impression that there is still write a few depressed rock fans, who resigned due to the weak rock albums in recent years and now work off their frustrations by pick on an alleged Blender. That's really a shame because if they would be willing even to get involved with this album, they might experience a miracle. But since the quality at the end really anyway penetrated, this album will once be seen for what it actually is. Namely an absolutely honest, brilliantly orchestrated, furious facility arranged and produced fantastic rock album, which has real class in every respect.
