not perfect, but much better than its reputation (from the other reviews) ...

The scanner is used to digitize Super8 and performed with most of my old film reels at first good job. With 3 films of about 100 scanned there were feeding problems with wrinkles and poor cut / glue spots, but overall as good (or bad) as you also know it from Super8 projector. For example, plan a movie that had to be glued new without buckling and then missing a few images.
Something I know, unfortunately, so our now broken and discarded projector.

One can Thing 4 reasons not perfectly describe:
a) it has in the film roll tracking the same quirks as the original Super8 projector Material: There is no optimized, error more resistant film guide, but a film made of the problems inside the projector, will equally have problems with the scanner.
For the price one would have ever wanted here a less fiddly leadership than before.
b) The supplied software is out of date, you have to draw a newer version online. The view of the short manual shows but then surprises there are in fact (to me unimportant) disappeared functions around comics. Overall, the software is visually somewhat carelessly, but did total in said mass of scanned films what they should. 2 or 3 times she hung to complete, but then, after rebooting, broken Kalibierung and denial "if you want to make a fresh start" at the same point again put.
c) It lacks the audio digitization. According to Wikipedia, there were various Super8 audio formats (magnetic / optical), but does not excuse that.
d) the hefty price

The unit was in c't - test successfully and there and during my research to date, the only of its kind.
This unique feature can be paid with a hefty price the manufacturer unfortunately. And since the Super8 market certainly is manageable and likely decreasing, I reckon * not * a plethora of competing devices and equipment * not * with fast falling prices.

In many films, the acquisition count vs.. To many professional (submitted) digitization, however, is to decide on the individual case. The operation will cost their own time and power, but also ensures maximum flexibility when digitizing.

For operation of the device:
The roller is mounted, the film fast forwards to the visible region and "scan" from the first picture selected. The scanner software then controls the connected via USB2.0 scanner in the single - feed, which each image generates a JPEG and stores. At the end of the process, the images are combined into one AVI. A rudimentary AutoCorrect in the software takes care of colors and exposure, but the result can of course still in Premiere or similar other software, such as Adobe then reworked.

How to 3 stars (. Vs. to the prevailing 1 * -Evaluation) come:
a) the newer software version appears to clearly make fewer problems than the other reviews here (in summer 2014)
b) unique selling point: There is no alternative devices
c) result was satisfactory
