Brian Wilson beats on this album mainly to the slower and quieter tones. The only outlier is "Runaway Dancer" - for me almost a foreign body; otherwise everything seems all of a piece and in harmoniously. For romantic-melancholy hours, this is an excellent work. The polyphonic singing phrases succeed Brian Wilson on »No Pier Pressure" quite outstanding and reasonably economical instrumentation fit (apart from the mentioned exception of the second track) is easy to combine soulful and also the somewhat busier compositions. Something sensational is not, but an outstanding work of a great artist who has lost even at an advanced age nothing of his creativity and skill. My conclusion: not a party album, but a disc to calmly listen and dream. And hang on every now and then. Collecting dust in the closet of this album will not.
