Update: I after 4 weeks annoy me again busy and have collected some experience. _>
Here I am. The problems with the data acquisition and further processing have left me no rest. Unfortunately, I have found on the Internet in various forums not helpful tips. At Canon itself the appropriate support site is really an underground bad. Even the search for possible accessories results in Canon's site no results. The camera itself has also not sufficient documentation. And one thing is now certain that the built-in SD card slot for data transmission makes significant problems. Here is a company product update must remedy surely eventually. How to go the mine is still completely unclear, since I have not found any information that!
Here is my new findings.
First, the camera takes incredibly great shots. When I put this via HDMI cable (must be purchased separately for about 4SS, - Euro) on my Full HD LCD TV screen connect and recordings look, the results are so awesome that sends shivers down your spine. A truly ineffable quality. Even in low light. Really worth the effort but. In particular, I have seen the same scene in comparison (normal DVD with PAL resolution) and then Full HD of the CAM. Whoa madness!
The bundled software is genuine scrap and only for Windows. Since there is also an update from the manufacturer, but it does not help anyway. I can import on a powerful laptop, the image data while and watch. Not more. Then somehow one-way street. The software has apparently rudimentary Filschnittoptionen and can supposedly AVCHD, BlueRay burn, but is not my goal. Can I also do not test for lack BlueRay burner or AVCHD DVD player.
So back to the Mac. Without additional software, I found the following possibility. When the camera is connected (USB 2.0) no FireWire, no SD card in the camera may be. Is there crashes iMovie08 from always. So copy pictures on the map / is in the camera quite fast (but only in one direction to the card (not back to the internal memory. !!!) Then I have a PCMCIA SD card reader used to import the video data. This cost ca . 20 Euro and are worth every penny! The copying process goes very fast, much better than using an external SD card reader, quasi hard drive speed. I have as a working material 2 x 45 minutes of HD video to the second highest setting 1920 x 1080 with 17MBit / s used. The material is stored on the camera to a Canon .mts format in 2GB file pieces. Changes in no case the additional name in the Finder! That had cost me about 1 day nerves. Said are 90 minutes in about 12 GB original material. I first made in iMovie for sufficient disk space. The import went into iMovie without any problems (if you have enough disk space !!! 'That was the beginning of my problem!) and was complete after about 2 hours. This import of Mac converts the data material from AVCHD format (12 GB) in the Apple Intermediate Format (60GB). This has the advantage that from then all cut and copy operations can virtually run the original high-resolution material in real time. I used the 90 minutes and cut a 15 minute final film in iMovie. I have used all kinds of effects and compiled scenes. The end result can be viewed in iMovie (Thanks Intermediateformats) in real time. But then the question arises how fast it goes? How do I get this brilliant quality back to the normal Full-HD TV.
Since there are unfortunately still some possibilities:
1.) Playing a hard disk recorder. Ex. Apple TV (I did not, and is quite expensive.) In addition, the data volumes are not enough! The current Apple TV solution with 250 GB costs 400 euros. And in datasets so fit it in around 8 hours Intermediate Format. So forget ...
From iMovie 08 only a QuickTime movie can be exported to get the full HD resolution. Once you go via iDVD 08 is the maximum resolution 960 X 540 pixels is reduced again. That I once burned testhalber on a normal DVD. But is no better than the normal video recordings of my old Hi8 Cam with standard resolution (I have used for comparison viewing). So I have a QuickTime movie in the 15 minutes running time to the required full HD exported (this action lasted about 10 hours on my dual core MacBook Pro 1 year old). After the final file with the 15 minute period was approximately 2 GB in size.
Latest Toast 9 Roxio can burn videos to AVCHD standard DVD's. For this requires toast an extra plug-in that also costs a few euros. That is also the second option:
Burn standard DVD - 2) the rendered QuickTime movie in Roxio Toast on an AVCHD. It fit just about 4.2 GB on normal DVD's. Therefore, at about 35 minutes length film circuit. But to be able to play at such a DVD (the blanks are relatively cheap) is a AVCHD - requires DVD Player. And there are only a few (all Blu-ray players from 250, - Euro upwards) which would have this option. These devices must be connected via HDMI to the TV. I have not (yet). I know not whether I want to have each one.
3) possibility. Simply directly create a BlueRay DVD. However, this is very violent. There are only very few and very expensive burner. Besides that the BlueRay discs need to be rendered and it is not yet much software for it. IDVD 8 it may not. I heard that it can iDVD Pro, could not taste the absence burner. Roxio 9:03 can according to the menu (but I would have to also have a burner). Apart from the price of blanks BlueRay about 10 euros are still far too expensive for this action.
4) If you want only the AVCHD DVD did, can buy a Canon DVD Burner for 169 euros and connect directly to the CAM. The burn the selected scenes. Attention should not be longer than the said 35 minutes. In this process, the films are baked as received. Another editing is not possible. I have not yet tried, because I really want to work on the films.
So what to do? So after watching the brilliant film quality (CAM connected via HDMI to the TV) have seen once, will not give up.
But one thing is certain. The technology is so young that have solved the computing times and storage amounts for a hobby consumer is not in the year 2008/2009. I think it has to go into the country, to be BlueRay burner and or can handle disk player for home use with Full HD still at least 2 years. Until then we have to wait.
I will continue to diligently copy movies and the original data created by SD card on my external hard drives (doubled) and have them lie there. We have to have for about 160 euros 1TB drives with FireWire 800. I have now started to use these as long-term video storage. I store the video data now so long on the plates until there are new technologies. But in 20 years, when my children will see this as an adult (one-off) movie moments, I want to show Full HD. Unfortunately, I can not edit the data so as I would like, but at the current rapid development of computer it will certainly work soon.
According to the current situation it will cost for 1 hour raw video = 8 GB to store long-term -> 2 external drives á 840 GB net usable for a total of 320 Euro. So fit 100 hours to this solution makes per hour 3,20 Euro. That's about as expensive as the mini digital Hi8 tapes from the past. Bingo.
Yet finally the highlights of the Canon HF11 CAM:
Pro:
+ Horny movie quality.
+ External microphone input! (I have a Beyerdynamics micro - that makes a very good quality of interviews - long cable needed)
+ Pleasant handling
Con:
- The wide angle is nothing. As still must be found an additional essay! (Missing me) - so a wide angle converter
