Equipment & Processing:
For 149 EUR you get the Memo Pad been offered all sorts based on the specifications, even if it is no longer a high-end standard for the equipment, so you should most users extend fully. However, the successor to the Nexus 7 is already in the starting blocks and trumps the memo pad in almost all areas, this one should keep in mind. I will not list the features in detail, the data listed above, I want to mention rather the points which are not mentioned anywhere. So Asus has waived a brightness sensor. This can be especially be uncomfortable if you frequently in changing (light / dark) wants to use the tablet environments. If the display is dimmed, and you go for example outside, it can be very cumbersome to increase the brightness of your tablet over the still reflective display, who uses the Tablet usually in the same environment, should have no problems. Also I sometimes miss the lack NFC interface, just sometimes but greatly simplifies the exchange of data between different devices and is becoming increasingly popular, but this point is a matter of taste which.
Otherwise, the equipment can not criticize especially considering the price. Especially the SD card slot are in my opinion a big plus compared to the (old) Nexus series.
The processing of the Memo Pad HDs is also good, even if the haptic fails not quite as good as the Nexus. The rear diffuser in matt blue plastic feels for the price quite high and does not disclose large gaps at the transition to other housing. Even with my device creaking was unlike other reviewers heard when pressing on the back, the back sits absolutely firmly. The front looks like a 1/1 replica of the old Nexus (except for the brightness sensor. The glossy display is prone to fingerprints, but this can be eliminated by applying a matte screen protector. In terms of processing, there are therefore no grounds for criticism.
Handling, operation, performance:
I personally find the 7 inch class as perfect compromise between size and mobility / compactness. So also the Memo Pad HD. It fits comfortably in your hand. The display is large enough to represent websites in their entirety and thus to surf comfortably. However, one must say that the resolution of 1280 * 800 is indeed sufficiently high for the display size of 7 inches but quite light pixels can be seen. A Full HD resolution would certainly lead to even more focus on the screen, so if you already had a higher resolution device in hand, will once be a bit disillusioned. The display allows for a wide viewing angle, without changing color, fade or similar .. also is the luminosity of the display in order, even if it comes straight outdoors (sun) to its limits. With a matte screen film, the display remains but reasonably legible. Still, the Nexus 7 is superior here.
The processor of the Memo Pad is also performing well enough for everyday use. Clear can be here and there sometimes a stuttering notice, but this is also the case with other devices with much stronger processors. 1GB of RAM is also sufficient, even if the state of the art now means 2GB. Since Android, however, relatively well managed the available memory, you realize only at excessive multitasking the missing GB for high-end devices or with more complex games. And at this point, the Memo Pad has then but as its limitations. In more complex games you realize quite the one or anderern stuttering, which clouded her game. But simpler games run without problems. Nevertheless, one has to make compromises at this price and this show is here at last. If you need more graphics power, will also have to spend more.
A word to the acoustics of the built-in speakers. Apart from the fact that the speakers are arranged so that the stereo effect only in Protrait mode tablet comes to validity (usually it will then look for films but kept cross), they are pretty neat from the performance. At least the volume and the volume is surprisingly good, although of course no cinema feeling comes up with it. This, however, creates virtually no device this size, only headphones or external speakers remedy.
Android interface:
Asus has the standard Android expands only modestly. Good solution is the extra software button that allows access to various apps floating and the power saving settings that can not be found so the Nexus for example. The added by ASUS apps are just for beginners very interesting and make it as the color of the screen to adapt their own preferences, a really good addition. Meanwhile is also the first update before (without the Android version to change), which brought a few extra features. Hopefully Asus maintains this support for the Memo Pad HD when in the future. After all, my Nexus 7 has almost the same time get the version 4.3, a major plus of the Nexus series. Let's see how Asus strikes here in the future.
Battery:
The battery life of the device is also more than neat. Playing it brought the device to scarce 6 hours at video (continuous loop) look even more than 8, a really good value though not quite equal to the manufacturer's instructions, but certainly not hiding behind the competition must.
Camera:
A few more words to the camera, even if I at least look at the back camera with a tablet more than a gimmick. Yet she makes in good light quite usable images, even if they allow a compact camera can not keep up. In low Lichverhältnissen be strong image noise is noticeable. Videos are recorded in full HD and see apart from a few artifacts from well. The front camera leaves a similar impression. For video calling you should already provide good lighting conditions, in order to present the opposite also a good picture.
Conclusion:
The Memo Pad HD is a price Pops. For 149 it comes with everything you need to surf on the couch. Cheaper you get, I think not so good all-rounder, which should make most users satisfied. Restrictions have to accept in terms of computing power / graphics power and readability outdoors. However, the new Nexus 7 is likely to be a serious competitor in its own home. For over 100 EURO more, you get a high-end equipment and quasi direct updates of Google. But if you want to save the money, or is not willing to spend as much, which can strike at Memo Pad entirely. A better all-rounder is not found.
