o using the remote control I can manage, not a highlight, but who does what better investigated should buy a luxury FB
o running noise during operation in order, only when logging in a bit too loud
o play many MPEG and WMV videos and some AVI formats from, but do not like Flash Video (.flv), even after renaming in mp4. MKV bit tricky (s. Below). Other formats like xvid and divx I have not tried it yet.
Pros
+ Price
+ Stable housing (metal)
+ Device is in principle no insight to use in the manual, very exemplary
+ White ticker on housing shows much of what is otherwise often only sees on the screen, for example, in the main mp3 tags. So you can leave the TV for MP3 playback from
+ Two USB2.0 ports (one at the back, one in front), both independently usable and turn off in standby (important for hard disks)
+ Read NTFS partitions, so large partitions and even MKV "matryoshka" files greater 4GB, with me on a Seagate GoFlex 250GB / 2.5 inches.
+ Ability to jump within the film at a given time (entering the season with the numeric keypad)
+ Single frame in pause mode
+ Long filename support in the file browser, displaying the name scrolls from left to right through if it does not fit on the screen
+ Fast forward, depending on the media type to 32x up
+ Firmware Upgrade via download from Philips with USB flash drive went smoothly
Cons or evidence of deficiencies
- On the remote control, there is no key to the drawer to open. The predecessor BDP3000 had an extra key for it. EDIT: by pressing the Stop button for a few seconds, so you can even close the drawer Remedy!
- No way the sound of video files play back their audio tracks are AAC encoding, and these are a great deal. Buy transcoding to AC3, MP3 or the 5000 model from Philips: Remedy
- The implementation of H.264 for MKV container is also the beginning of January 2011 (firmware 1:36) still tricky, Philips does not seem here to have put a great deal of brainpower. The Player can in fact by many (even calculated) files that irritate play without complaint on the PC and skips at best playback. In the worst case it depends so much on that only "pull the plug" helps. Who work for people with HandBrake 0.9.5 / Win32: for me it helped the framerate of "Same as source" to put on "fixed 25 fps". The starting material was already 25 fps, and the result was supposed to be equal, but it's not. I do not know what is rotten there, something is different in the header of mkv file.
- DVD files from USB are unfortunately only individually (vob) and not recognized as a film. Too bad, because then there is every 15-20 minutes a break when the next file is loaded. The player can therefore play DVD content only neatly from DVD disc. Way: see vob files patiently in appetizers or ummultiplexen in mkv.
- MP3: caution in a folder in front of too many files / folders, the list is long and tedious to navigate the TV.
- For me it was the composite video output via SCART for movies with a frame rate equal to 25 fps at a 4: 3 tube only a black / white image. The HDMI output, it is colored.
