Once again Sony MDR-DS6500 against Sennheiser RS170

Sony MDRDS6500 wireless headphones in 7.1 digital quality, black (Personal Computers)

Customer Review

I rate or here see both products as an absolute amateur. These are my first headphones of this kind that I have bought myself. I just wanted to have the opportunity to enjoy even late at even in ordinary volume movies and music. And here we are already at the first point on which you should previously be absolutely clear:

I want the headphones mainly watch movies, or I hear often or exclusively music with it? Ums straight to the point - I came to the conclusion that better suited for films of Sony suitable for music widerum of Sennheiser headphones. But let's start at the beginning.

PACKING:

- SONY: The headset comes in a simple cardboard box full, in the headphones and the docking station is wrapped up in more Pappformen (Environmental fans have their delight, plastic you can hardly find). The headset is also still packed a one cloth bag in order to ensure additional protection. Everything is as it should be.

- Sennheiser: The packaging of Sennheiser's something valent, the box has a lateral section of plastic, so you can inspect the packaging of the headphones already. The box is additionally provided with glossy elements and structure, which generally affects valent. The headset itself, including docking station is embedded in a plastic mold which can "aufklippen" above and below refer to both. The accessories are neatly in a cardboard box, which is divided into 2 other small boxes, accommodated. Here, then, clearly more plastic has, but I liked subjectively better.

OPTICS:

- SONY: The headset is on top with artificial leather provided (questionable durability) and laterally and held in high-gloss black on the handset itself. The padding is made of synthetic leather and a little harder and tougher than the Sennheiser. The docking station is a simple straight tower with flat base. The front is also held in high gloss. The design is generally kept very simple.

- Sennheiser: Unlike the Sony Sennheiser has a complete top plastic strap. Sennheiser waived glossy elements of any kind. Only the speaker itself are emphasized by a small glossy strip. But I do not think that the listener thereby acting cheaper. The upholstery is also made of synthetic leather and a whole lot softer / softer than the Sony. But because it also acts as fragile. The docking station is also kept completely in plastic and acts in playful design, the two side-mounted feet bring more dynamism and curves in the optics. Personally I like better than the Sony Design.
It is even on that of Sennheiser headphones is a good deal wider than the Sony. Other recessions that my Sony headphones THAT CONDITION valent I can not agree. Both headphones act very valuable!

FUNCTIONALITY:

- SONY: The docking station has an optical input and a stereo LINE IN connector. Already alone the optical digital connection is a clear advantage over the Sennheiser, which has input only via a 3.5mm jack! The input source can be on the docking station (analog, digital), set 3 different sound effects, Compression and a volume gain. On headphones themselves will find only a power button and the volume control by rotary switch. More you also do not need. The headset can easily be adjusted in size, which should not be a problem even for very large heads. The Sony headphones have a built-in lithium-ion battery - to change supposedly only in a Sony workshop (to make himself also depending on the technical know-how). The attachment to the docking station is very convenient and the headphones always locked securely and is automatically charged.
Commissioning is Plug & Play - easily with the optical cable included in the accessories to connect (or even gekauft- or existing RCA cable) and off you go. On the dock, the just processed audio signal is displayed (digital connection). There Dolby Digital, DTS or Dolby ProLogic II. The latter is a virtual surround mode is provided which Stereosingale with surround sound. Is activated only by connecting to the dock. When connecting with an optical cable, one must note that it is often necessary to adjust to its output device audio output correctly so that the headphones process actually DTS or Dolby Digital. The signal should be here "raw" so output without change, so that the headphones can process the audio signal properly with the built-in docking station decoder. Only then is the kind DTS lights or DD lights on the dock.

- Sennheiser: The connections we have already clarified in accessories a 3.5 jack cable and an adapter to 6.35mm and an adapter to RCA is. Can be nothing on the docking station, adjust except the volume increase of at -8dB to 0dB. The other features like extra bass and 3D surround, and POWER and volume control (via keyboard) can be found on the headphones. When activated Again, the LED on the docking station lights up. Many argue recessions, one slips away many times because "so many" key (5) can be found on the headphones. I had no problems and never have caught the wrong button. The package includes also 2 pcs. AAA batteries, which you have to use by simply turning off the padding on the headphones. This is really very simple. Charging is also on the docking station. Unfortunately, that's all a very shaky here. The headset snaps not really, and thus you have to fiddle around often, so that the charging process is running well.
Here, too, the start Plug & Play, you have to note anything special.

KLANG:

- SONY: To return to the beginning of the recession - here scores of headphones look mainly at the film. The surround effect is really great, well-balanced sound. The bass is not overemphasized, but then comes, if it requires the film. Voices are very clear. In the corresponding films go here quite to the point. I have, among other things tested with Ironman, Fast & the Furious, Step Up 3D and Star Trek. Again, when Dolby Digital or DTS arrives here, but also in ordinary stereo surround effect of the Sennheiser is far superior. When listening to music the Sony can convince for less. There is too little bass and treble. The sound seems flat. All the sound effects that can be set at the Dockingstaton are useless in my opinion all. The sound is totally distorted and tinny. It just reverberates and acts as a cheaper surround effect. I always just leave the setting therefore to OFF. Some films also is the volume in my opinion, even at max. Setting too low.

- Sennheiser: The sound of Sennheiser acts generally balanced, fresh, with just more fullness. There are more bass and clearer highs. If you listen to music, you can hear the difference clearly. The same piece of music sounds here on 3.5mm better than on the Sony via optical connection. But it is accepted that the surround effect significantly less than in the case of films fails Sony. The function for added bass is basically a great thing. With already bass-heavy music / movies, the bass is then for fast times too dominant and roars anything. Depending on your taste you can use this feature so or not. The 3D surround sound is also a nice feature, and works better than all the unnecessary sound settings when Sony in any case. I noticed that not only the surround effect is enhanced, but more clearly come to the fore and the background noise in movies so. But you always have to remember that this only serves as a stereo source. Thus, the headset is on this point never to the Sony, much less able to keep up a proper system 7.1.

GENERAL and CONCLUSION:

From the comfort both headphones are the same pleasant. Both have tight fit and not slip so quickly - the Sony tends but before the head forward tend to slip something whereas the RS170 budge. The Sennheiser shields block external noise a little better than the Sony. I had despite WiFi on both devices no reception problems in my 70 square meters apartment. To the often commented noise I can only say - I would not have noticed in both. And if only to such an extent that I would not find it disruptive or worth mentioning then.
A comment on the spectacle wearers among us. Here one has of course always a disadvantage with headphones of this type. Through the strap of glasses headphones encloses the ear no longer correct. The result is a flatter sound, go west the bass. Since you can actually dodge only on contact lenses or just blindly listen. :) When looking movies wirds then complicated - but here also scores of Sony, because so stupid that sounds, you can hook the strap of glasses qausi left and right speakers on here Augrund the design, which is also a convenient carrying of glasses with headphones allows. What this looks like is sometimes an open question, it is important that it works. ;)

Since I need the headphones look almost only the film (listen to the music I use in-ear headphones), I then decided to go in spite of any handicap for the Sony MDR-DS6500. Not least because of better connections and the direct processing of DTS and Dolby Digital. Here, the sound and the cinematic experience is superior to RS170 simply far. If I had only listened to music, I would have opted for the Sennheiser RS 170 because here plays Surround and the like does not matter.

For questions I am of course always at your disposal. Thank you for reading;)
