1993 was a difficult year for Bananarama. Jacquie O'Sullivan, in 1988 as a replacement for Siobhan Fahey joined the band (and their footsteps she could never fill), Bananarama left in late 1991, so it was decided, from now on as a duo continue. The last album Pop Life, although praised by critics, was a commercial flop. So the successful producer of the 80s, Stock and Waterman were, again brought on board in order to build on the glory of days gone by can. Here then is already the main problem of Please Yourself: Stock and Waterman are synonymous with infectious but inconsequential feel-good music of the 80s. 1993, whose zenith was long past and their current productions sounded even then terribly old-fashioned. The stock selection to Please Yourself would unfortunately can not be chosen - the songs sink all mid-paced and the whole plate sounds like an infinite loop. Everything can be heard here was years ago already there, so you could get the impression, Bananarama attempted herewith a winking 80s Revival - 1993 it was this of course much too early. So however Bananarama act over long distances as a parody of himself.
Notable tracks there is not really to Please Yourself. There are no outliers up or down. As Bananarama were approached during their promotion to their comeback album "Drama" of 2005, on this album, Tatem themselves candidly voice their opinions: "The worst thing we have ever released". For a fan Sara Dallin signed the album even with the words "I'm sorry that you have bought this album." At least, the Nanas laugh at yourself and see artistic mistakes as not too seriously - and that puts them at least once a fat sympathy points. Please Yourself times we forget very quickly ...
