One of the best Marillion - albums ever!

Afraid of Sunlight (Audio CD)

Customer Review

This album is, in my opinion, undoubtedly one of the best Marillion - albums ever, and was published as a result of her album "Brave" in June 1995. The first work on this eighth studio album of Marillion started after completion of "Brave" - Tour. Partially created a concept album, the act eight songs of the ascents and crashes in show business and its partly tragic consequences. Certainly, this issue is not new but never loses its relevance, how indeed could see in recent years repeatedly (Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston etc.). Marillion decided even with their eighth studio album again for Dave Meegan as a producer, which is also already in the predecessor - was album "Brave" held the same position. Apart from the unusual but very entertaining song "Cannibal Surf Babe", the remaining seven pieces are rather quiet and atmospheric. With beautiful, melodic synthesizer - Parts, stunning guitar sounds and skillfully in scene set, soulful increases, succeeds Marillion repeatedly to make spine-chilling moments and accents. The best example is certainly the title song himself, who personally to this day the best Marillion for me - one songs. Grandiose also the bombastic finale of the last song "King" - simply amazing! To discover all the musical details, you should not hear this album just in passing, but to get involved deliberately it. Here to talk about yawning boredom or even music for depressive contemporaries, I can not quite understand personally and'm definitely disagree. But tastes are just different, and that we must of course accept. Clear, Marillion was the charismatic singer FISH a class of its own, but I think the evolution of this band with the arrival of his successor STEVEN HOGARTH not bad or uninteresting. I found his singing from the beginning not bad, though perhaps in a different way. Whether standing with Fish or Hogarth, Marillion and still is very high in my course. And that will also not change ... Well, the commercial success brought not this album. Only the song "Beautiful" was released as a single from this album, reaching in the UK - Charts in June 1995 for two weeks with 29th place, the best result ever. The album itself came only in the Netherlands under the Top Ten of the album - charts, reaching there in July 1995 8th place, while in the German album - reached charts only in August 1995 as best result 75th place. Anyway, music must awaken emotions with me and scratch my feelings, needs to capture me and inspire. And all these features together "Afraid of Sunlight". Even after twenty years still great, timeless and unmatched. Progressive Rock with goose bumps - guaranteed!
