Due to the vast scope (4 novels and 56 short stories) is in the book, understandably, to quite a tome. The text is printed columns and relatively small, but the readability does not suffer. Thanks head gilt-edged book looks very nice by the way on the shelf and is the solid build a nice alternative to the usual in the lower price segment paperback editions.
Preceded by the novels and short stories is a brief introduction from the Sherlock Holmes expert David Stuart Davies, on further explanatory notes or a detailed comment, however, was omitted. The famous illustrations by Sidney Paget have indeed made it into the book, unfortunately, the images are poorly resolved and very low in contrast. A look at the imprint reveals that the book was indeed set in the UK, but printed in China, which would then probably also explain the low price of the book.
The legendary price-performance ratio makes the shortcomings I mentioned in my eyes but made up for it. So if you can do without comments and additional information and does not interfere with the low quality of the illustrations, this book gets a proper Sherlock Holmes complete edition.
Personally, I was lucky enough to get hold of the book for 8.05 at the Amazon Warehouse Deals. It could thus quite worthwhile to keep an eye out for cheap offers open.
