One has the impression that the work was not done proofreading: is the publisher (Pearson yet published very good books), too eager would not have left time authors to replay ? It is a pity that the supplements at the end of chapters and the historical introductions make this work really stands out from others and make it more alive. The book makes you want to learn more about the subject matter and a bit beyond the L1 program (group actions are discussed, for example, then the L3 appronfondies algebra volume).
The book is very comprehensive and has a complete section refresher for those who are not sure of the basics to calmly begin a first year in higher education.
If there is a new edition due out, I sincerely hope it will work proofreading and corrections she deserves! The volume of L2 however was much more polished at its proofreading: even looking I did not find any errors in the theorems.
The index is only 4 pages for a book of over 1100 pages ... He also deserves to be more detailed (same remark for the volume of L2).
In short: a beautiful book that seems to have been checked before publication ... Too bad!
