After a somewhat boring start during which Jack describes the routine of two characters between their four walls (about 80 pages), the player will gradually take leave in history, sometimes captivated, and attaches to the two heroes. Despite the initial situation and a difficult subject, the author does not give in easily sensational and 'cheap', writing remains sober and all the more moving.
I enjoyed the book and found it original - without crying stroke of genius. The originality lies including the narrator, but it is also precisely its weakness: we do not necessarily believe in the child-narrator; from childish remarks thoughtful comments, an awkward term for an adult writing, narrative voice knows too much really to convince fluctuations. That said, 'Room' is still a good book, original and moving, I would recommend.
