I have set up a home server recently. Because I wanted to have more flexibility than a NAS-based solution can offer, my choice has fallen on Windows Home Server 2011. The device is quick and easy. The individual PCs to the server is almost foolproof. Connected systems are automatically backed up periodically. Since it is a "real" Windows Server OS, you can, easily set up and use just about all services that require Windows.
