"Authentic" is the case MMW but always a bit tricky. Because above all, he has always been an actor and also on his albums always a role, a fictional character played. Whether the vulnerable, naive young man of the early Nah-on-Schlager-time, the rowdy, assige "grafter", the "Armani Jagger" or "indigenous bluesman" the last tour, every era has its own MMW. He himself was always rather an intellectual, political and artistic interests and formed. One could from this point of smooth say that exactly this year with their (moderate) experimental sounds highfalutin concepts and last but not least the sarcasm distanced his clever observations formulated world perhaps best demonstrated the real MMW.
And in any case, the disk a lot of flair and atmosphere. Not only the merit of MMW himself, who with his conscious supercooled singing one of the most mature performance has his career, but also his fellow musicians. The very headstrong, rude and incredibly effective guitar work was already praised by another reviewer, the effective synth Mountains are but equally impressive - and have not done better in the UK. "No time" is indeed the only real "hit" of the disc, but "The sun so red" easily impressed as a collective work. Even the bouncer-number "cash paid" that the "grafter" an adopted once and for all and quite out of the ordinary, has a firm place in the overall concept.
Confusingly, uneingängig, exhausting, overly intellectual, cool - and simply great. My favorite MMW. No ifs and buts.
