The exchange went perfectly, in 10 minutes the old dimmer was removed and replaced with the new,
Unfortunately, the Busch & Jäger Dimmer met also not 100% my expectations. Now that I have both the dimmer test, I want the UNITEC face the properties of the B & J briefly.
Absolutely no humming noise when dimming with B & J, UNITEC hums slightly, but is in a very quiet room inaudible, only when you put your ear directly on the dimmer.
The B & J Dimmer has a delay. Pressing the central disk, it takes a brief second until the LED really shine when UNITEC the LED lights immediately.
The B & J Dimmer has a linear dimming from 40% brightness at lower brightness he is almost useless, since the LED flicker strong and sometimes even jump briefly to 100% and back again ". In UNITEC has a not so linear dimming , limited but this is less than 40% make use of brightness, as it does not make these jumps to 100% and not quite as strong and often flickers like the B & J. But since you can not sagebn whether the damage the LED, I would not risk to go under the 40% dimming range. Generally I both only a clean dimming grant from 40% brightness.
Here lies for me just the biggest shortcoming. I can 5.5W spots Although a leisurely not dim to bright light, but for example. To Watching television while lying in a chair or on the couch, they are still too bright to be dazzled. Because I would have a similar dimming behavior expected as halogen that I just come on down 10% without flickering.
An advantage of the B & J Dimmer even compared to the UNITEC, with regard to the central plate with Glimmlämpchen. The is simply inserted at B & J and stalls, with UNITEC I had to cheat a little and tinkering to get fixed reasonable orientation Kampe.
Conclusion:
Both UNITEC, and B & J did not strong shortcomings with regard to the dimming behavior towards halogen dimming and thus do not meet my expectations. If you want to dim its LED only about 50%, is well advised with two dimmers however. The only difference here is the thing about the Glimmlämpchen at UNITEC. If, however, another central disk without glow lamp is also no longer a disadvantage. The price advantage of UNITEC dimmer no longer as clear as at the time of my purchase, because since the UNITEC still cost 28 EUR. I can recommend both with this restriction, want to save something for people would be the UNITEC, recommendable despite failures. I do not relate to faults suggest that the quality of the UNITEC would be worse now.
Note:
Each LED behaves differently. I ask to consider that the observations were made with the above LEDs. What I hardly can imagine is the fact that it works better with other light sources, because as mentioned Philips and B & J are in co-operation with regard to the development of their products.
Update 4/11/2014:
I do not know if the product was already broken on delivery, because it seemed strange that all such small amounts as liquid filler leaked on the dimmer, but last night I had the dimmer 1 hour in use, then was nothing more. It suddenly jumped (without contact for an hour) from 40% brightness to maximum brightness, and could no longer be dimmed. Even the small wheel of the minimum brightness could make to the absolute minimum and it did not happen more, 100% lamp power. After I'd left the lights still on full power then went after 30 minutes to completely dark, because the dimmer then suddenly working again and the minimum brightness was set too low. For me clearly defective. I sent him back and will again buy the UNITEC because it has limitations, with which you can live and because it is cheaper (the B & J is every day more expensive here on Amazon ...)
