Philips Avent SCD525 / 00 ECO DECT Baby Monitor (Baby Product)

Customer Review

We have three devices tested until we finally had what you wanted.
We compared the Philips SCD 525 and the Angelcare baby monitor 420 D. came because we did not like both devices nor the Philips SCD 580 about which we then retain. For completeness, here are the impressions for all three devices:

Philips SCD 525 ----------- -----------
+ Very good range (even 3 floors down and two houses)
+ Intercom feature is really great
+ Very good voice quality
- Volume of the parent unit is miserable
- Not suitable for noisy environments
- ECO mode (radiation) affects unripe against the SCD 580
- Range control not be switched off

Conclusion: The machine almost convinced us, quality is not only in the transmission and range (see the Conclusion SCD 580) much better than the Angle Care but felt a little better also during processing. Unfortunately, the parent unit was so quiet even at the highest volume that you can use the device impossible for parties or noisier environments. You can hear the baby crying through the door rather than the device in front of it. Too bad, because one can use the device only if one pays close attention to it. While the ECO mode reduces the radiation (and the range and power consumption), the device sends yet though intermittently but regularly (the range control can not be deactivated) DECT radiation. This has been significantly improved in the next generation, as you can see on the SCD 580. This equipment should be bought under any circumstances, if that SCD 560, 570 and 580 are as an alternative of the second generation! The SCD 535, however, is from the same generation as the 525 but has nevertheless a vibration alarm, which would be really important in the low sound level.

----------- Angelcare baby monitor 420D -----------
+ Very good volume
+ Technology used (analog instead DECT) very low radiation
+ Range control can be switched off (no radiation!)
0 coverage was okay for our 120 sqm apartment
- Unfortunately, the technology, much background noise (noise)
- Störfunk
- No special functions

Conclusion: Unfortunately went right after plugging the Störfunk going on now and then ran music or we heard anyone speak. Not permanently but every now and then short and because it discourages then always high. So one imagines no relaxing evening. Sure - there are several channels and one has with some channels better luck, but we was too annoying. The device has no frills, what could be seen as an advantage, but for example just the intercom function of Philips devices we have come to love immediately. Possibly this unit is in the country less disturbed by other analog radio than we do in the city to take advantage of low radiation exposure but we now have the SCD580 also (not the SCD525!).

Philips SCD 580 ----------- -----------
+ Very good range (even 3 floors down and two houses)
+ Very good voice quality
+ Very good volume
+ Intercom feature is really great
+ Good Smart ECO mode for radiation reduction to minimum
+ Range control can be switched off (no radiation!)
+ Vibrate great for parties
+ Frills? `Actually great features!
- Expensive

Conclusion: Well we have not given up after the first two devices! The SCD 580 has convinced us and the best of the two other devices combined. The great range of DECT technology, which is hervoragend even in the city (I can go down three floors and diagonally opposite shopping in health food store to go and still have reception) was combined with an ECO mode that minimizes the DECT radiation. This works completely automatically, and the device acting almost with the range control also continuously from the same transmitting power. The radiation is therefore automatically reduced when it is not so much needed at short distances. On top of this Smart-ECO, there are still a key for the ECO-Max mode, which switches off the Range control (you should only use if you know from experience that the coverage is sufficient, for example in their own homes), the positive side effect is that in this mode, the baby unit sends only when the baby makes noise (sensitivity adjustable from always up only loud cries). Thus one has in one's own four walls virtually no radiation exposure, yet all the advantages of DECT technology !!! This is too bad of Philips communicates!
Furthermore, the vibrating alarm has turned out to a wedding party as a stroke of genius. There you have loud music impossible the sound can be heard even if you had noticed the lights of LEDs, if you do not constantly ignored it. Thus the device could simply disappear with key lock in your pocket (unfortunately relatively thick, but this one feels the vibration even better. I've always noticed if something was going on in the room, two other children were in which I have also noticed all and the two other baby monitors have our not disturbed (one was also a Philips SCD 535). It was really a super endurance test. on top as Sahnestück one still has the remote-controlled night light function, the great star projection and the intercom function are that not only pure frills, just when the baby is a little older. If, for example (thanks to DECT operation range) is the child (such as at a wedding celebration) can ever the child calm on the way relatively far away, thus it creates in the child trust! If the child is older then, I can imagine that it is sometimes necessary is not necessarily added to run, except it was a really worse nightmare.

We're totally happy with the Philips SCD 580, the price had deterred us - but here really shows that you actually get something real here for the money. I would even say you get the best value for money of the three devices, because you get the best of both devices and paid not quite twice as much for it.
