Moreover, I knew nothing of this 33 laps. Was it good or was it a dispensable LP or bad? However, successful cover photo augured that was a reflection of the former. Indeed, I was very inspired and for good reason!
The first CLASH has been for me a masterful slap. Packed with hymns and destructive policies words that still make sense today, he revealed the incredible pair's talent as a composer STRUMMER / JONES, which was pulling like a string of pearls on classic classic. Beyond the musical aspect, it has been a real detonator for the English youth so that future prospects were at least as narrow as a virgin's vagina.
There are two versions: with 14 European titles and 15 US titles. Indeed, at its output, this album was banned from the US market, with little Uncle Sam tasted the title "I'm so bored with the USA". In fact, it was available only import and drained anyway to more than 100,000 copies, which was huge for a group like CLASH. It appeared officially in this market in 1979 with a different setlist. Some titles are left to rot like 48 hours, Cheat, Protex blue, Denny benefit remarkable singles released between 1977 and 1979: Complete Control, White Man in Hammersmith Palais, Clash city rockers, I Fought The Law, Jail guitar doors An single was offered with the LP, with two stunning pieces, Gates of the West and Groovy times!
Shortly before its purchase, I had seen the film RUDE BOY dedicated to CLASH and I had been singularly shaken by the insane energy that exuded the band on stage, its intransigence that made him to be close to his fans and feed with connivance that many groups had not, for want of not being grounded in reality.
Musically speaking, I was enthralled by the company in favor of the resumption Emeritus sublime POLICE AND THIEVES Junior MURVIN, a real firebrand who sealed the rebellion PUNK full of young black Jamaican culture and often victims of racial discrimination. I think the great Bob Marley was sufficiently impressed by this version so much so that dedicated to them (as well as JAM, DAMNED, DR FEELGOOD) Great composition entitling PUNKY REGGAE PARTY
To talk of the cover, note that the picture that made his back, we see Don LETTS, video artist and friend of the band, later BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE member, Mick Jones of training, taken during a riot punctuating West Indian carnival in Notting Hill in London in 1976 and facing a line of cops. It is on this occasion that Joe STRUMMER have composed the famous WHITE RIOT which attempted to seize the opportune NATIONAL FRONT English, while the text of this song expresses his desire to see young white rebel against an unjust society fundamentals like the black youth, those who did not hesitate to Castagner with cops, in order to express their dismay hatched by a selfish society that left on the bottom side of the most vulnerable road which is unfortunately still topical.
I would be unable to reach a trifecta of the best tracks of this album as it is remarkably coherent and harmonious. Besides writing BEST (monthly ROCK and ROCK AND FOLK competitor at the time), in its issue of January 1978, had voted best album of the year in 1977, despite all the good cakes outputs during this exercise I think especially MARQUEE MOON Television, NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS Pistols among others, no less ...
I think, for my part, it has aged well, despite producing a "craft" brin ... Rest securities, which have not aged a bit and always a source of inspiration some still claim! My favorite? Come on, I begin: Janie Jones, but the others are also so good ...
