Alternatively still, the Garmin FR220 was for me to choose from, but have the Polar M400 bought due to the mE better P / L ratio. For the FR220 speaks the lower weight (40g instead of 60g of m400) and better fit for small wrists.
The pros and cons for Polar m400 in my view:
+ Large, easily legible display
+ Good training diary with key evaluations and interpretations of workouts
+ Fast GPS Fixing before the start
+ Multisport profiles for running, cycling and otherwise. Indoor-outdoor training set
o no clock for narrow (filigree) wrists (for many women, it may be a bit too bulky)
o USB micro connector on the back could carelessly use a "breaking point" are
- (!) Pace indicator of the current, automatic lap impossible
Who like me a Garmin FR is used, who knows especially the Pace display that indicates you that you, for example, to the current, automatic round (eg for 3.4 km.) A Pace of 5.: 20 min / km has. This means that in the last 400 meters had an average pace of 5:20 min / km.
This display is familiar with the Polar M400 / V800 unfortunately not!
It may be the current pace (very erratic) or the average pace over the entire run are displayed either. After an automatic round (after the beep) while the round Pace the last lap is shown briefly, but a forecast for the current, current round there is not.
Since I now train more to the RF fields does not bother me too much. You can now also adjust Pace areas, thus running after a Pace-Range. There is a feature called "target time estimate", with which one the target time to a pre-specified distance (5, 10, 21 km, etc.) gets shown. I have tested and yes this feature, you can be guided accordingly already. Is similar to the "virtual partner", the one from Garmin knows.
The thing with the display of a cumulative Pace on the current, automatic round is submitted hopefully by Polar. That would be great. Regardless, one can use the M400 wonderful for an RF training control!
Conclusion:
P / L = 5 stars
Functions = 4 - 5 stars
Processing = 3 stars
Total = 4 stars (with option to 4.5 stars, if still get appropriate updates)
UPDATE:
Use the M400 now for about 4 months and until now was no software update or the like that would allow one could use the display fields, which refer to "rounds" as part of the automatic KM-rounds. As before, it is not possible to have the "lap time" or "last lap" or "average lap speed" or "round-HF" show based on an automatic lap around the clock. Only when you create a manual lap by pressing a button, then do the mentioned fields as they should.
This is quite pointlessly.
Who GPS running beginners is or has been used almost round display panels, this is perhaps not immediately obvious; if at all.
Who does not want to wait for a software update from Polar or does not want to deal too closely with the display representation of the sport profiles that some features may not work as expected, for the M400 / V800 certainly not the first choice to find out. Who would not have permanently displayed the last lap or current lap Pace because he / she trained exclusively by pulse, for the m400 is ok, but then also satisfies a GPS clock with fewer features and possibly easier handling.
Update (15/04/2015):
Today, the software update for the M400 / V800 was published on Version 1.4.
This update additional data fields for sports profiles have been added, including the favorite of my data field for Pace on the current, automatic round.
Through a number of improvements the web platform Flow and the addition of the highly anticipated auto Lap data field there is of me now 5 star in the Overall!
Functions and P / L agree absolutely.
Who still wants to complain at a high level, which may at most comfort for small wrists, the total weight of 60g and the battery power lead as optimization desires.
In all these issues, the M400 is still compared to other GPS sports watches rather average and not at all bad. Therefore, 5 stars from me.
