Portrait Alternatives (fixed focal length) for me:
- Nikon 105 1: 2.8 micro VR: longer, image stabilization, macro lens.
The great sharpness that even longer focal length and the macro use sound great. But an image section of converted 157,5mm is very special, Aperture 2.8 Aperture 1.8 is not. It is considerably more expensive and also quite a chunk. If in any case on the wish list as a specialist later.
- Sigma 85mm 1: 1.4 DG HSM: Even brighter, P / L.
Yes, the Sigma - priced between 1.8 and Nikon Nikon 1.4. Aperture 1.4, top handles. My problem: I was never really warm with the Sigma lenses. Time it had repeatedly for adjustment, then worked the autofocus times only at the cross-type sensors the camera or the processing and appearance were simply to be desired. Especially since the 35s and 50s STYLE lenses I should probably change my mind, but that are beyond my budget and requirement range.
Experience with the Nikon 85mm 1: 1.8 g after six months:
POSITIVE:
++ Image effect
85mm set already markedly different free 50 / 55mm. The background is highly compressed, even whole-body imaging with relatively large amount of background information appear very vividly!
++ Optical Quality
Aperture 1.8 is to use me smears. Once dimmed it delivers 2.5 contrast, details, sharpness and colors that I never was able to get out my camera in Aperture. The blur areas (bokeh) are in quantity and quality simply breathtaking. Vignette is on crop (DX) not an issue. The "oh so bad" color fringing (chromatic aberration) I find not as dramatic as it can be corrected quickly if necessary (Clicking in Lightroom). But you are there. Anyone who wants to take pictures in bright backlight and not the time / leisure, has then to sit in Lightroom, just need to access professional version for 1000 - an additional cost.
NEUTRAL:
* Small - light - plastic
"Only" 1.8 aperture lens make the small, the use of plastic makes it easy. And thus it acts just not as high. Mir is not important that I'm happy about the light weight (just 350g!).
* Autofocus
He always hits reliably on my D7000 (Af-39 module). Incorrect focused images are truly the exception. The speed is just to describe as "quickly". Of course, not comparable with the autofocus ring a 17-55 / 24-70 2.8 but fully practicable.
NEGATIVE:
- Chromatic aberration
Purple and green fringing occur noticeably up on strong in backlight. This is probably because that the 85mm 1.8g No special remuneration was donated. Nevertheless, they are easily and quickly corrected (Lightroom) and not as "bad", such as the Canon 85mm 1: 1.8 USM described or in some tests.
- 85mm on Crop
Yes, you should know that before and it is not the fault of the objective, that is bolted to a DX camera. But it should only be noted: 85mm (or a view angle of 127,5mm) on Crop are very very special. Inside - except in ball rooms or at much Bewegunsbereitschaft - often difficult to use. It's an easy out of place. If you sit at a table, the camera briefly brings out of his pocket to make an inconspicuous picture of Opposite quickly you get here either only the eyes or the camera will not focus properly because the minimum distance is not given (80cm!) ,
CONCLUSION
It is and remains an excellent portrait lens for a competitive price with the necessary power. This also applies to DX, but with the restriction that it is not nearly as flexible as a 50mm. This places at f 2 to DX free already very great and is far easier in everyday use. The perfect combination would be the approximate angle of 50mm with the exemption and compression of 85mm. This combination there and it is 85mm on full frame. Since the (Amateurs- / Hobby) budget but not yet allow that, it still remains at DX - with the realization that probably no more professional DX lenses will come more for the serious photographer. If FX but times are an issue, an excellent portrait lens is before the House.
