Power good (processor, graphics, ...) with little problems (HDD, WIFI)

Lenovo Y50-70 39.6 cm (15.6-inch FHD TN) Notebook (Intel Core i7-4710HQ, 3.5 GHz, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M / 4GB, no OS) Black (Personal Computers)

Customer Review

Caveat: I have the version with the UHD display and HDD bought, but I post my review here as well, because I probably am not the only stumbled on maintenance issues with the notebook. I have after a long search found a few solutions for changing the WLAN card.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I told my brother that Lenovo Y50-70 taken for the study, since it much processor and graphics performance required for applications such as Archicad, not usually for games, even if this laptop would have no problems (gaming notebook).
I go to the review also addresses the Lenovo FRU list / Parts list.

Since the notebook is delivered without an operating system should keep problems from to go away to these installation instructions (Lenovo). Even made the experience.
1. Chipset installations (Intel ...)
2. Storage Driver
3. Power Driver
4. Intel graphics card drivers
5. NVidia graphics card driver
6. Then, the rest of drivers

Recommendation in anticipation of the lower points:
Replace hard disk immediately to an SSD. Notebook is extremely much faster than the built-slow hard drive.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pro:
- Processor Intel Core i7-4710HQ is very good and has enough power for everything.
- Memory is lifted sometime later of 12GB to 16GB to run in dual channel. But even so perfectly adequate.
- Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M / 4GB is also very good and sufficient, although not the latest games with the UHD resolution run smoothly. But Full HD should almost all games run smoothly, though not at the highest level details.
- 15.6-inch IPS display UHD 3840 x 2160 pixels has a very nice picture. The colors are strong, met my expectations. The brightness and viewing angles are also good.
- The housing is better than expected, looks quite noble. Stay unfortunately just to see fingerprints on the lid, but this is not so bad. A red keyboard light, which is like my brother, also available. The keyboard has a good pressure point.
- For a gaming notebook with 2.4 kg quite easily and also pretty thin at 2.4 cm.
- The built-in speakers are super. Did I really liked for a notebook.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Neutral:
- Windows 7 is not to be used at UHD. Windows 8.1 is much better but again, not all menus already adjusted, so that you have to unscrew something on the 8.1 display size in Windows.
- Most programs do not support this resolution and are either too small or if in Windows enlargement is set much too big and out of focus.
But is more of a Windows program and problem, and not the fault of the notebook.
- Battery life is not particularly strong or weak. Depending on the task are 3-4 hours in there.
- The touch pad is still ok, even if it sometimes does not always super responsive to all gestures immediately.
- No DVD drive

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Negatives:
- Power supply but some fat and large.

- The true beautiful black aluminum housing is something prone to scratches that can be seen well because of the color.

- The HDD Hybrid SSHD 1TB is unfortunately a disaster. The is extremely slow. While the 8GB SSD is a part of who to the Windows Start and the most used programs to accelerate, however, slows down the disk filled my laptop to the level of my old notebooks from 5 years ago.
After replacing the HDD with a 250GB Samsung SSD EVO my laptop is now like from another planet. The performance will be held back no longer from the hard drive and it starts with Windows 8.1 in about 8-9 seconds and can be used immediately.
An SSD drive should now be standard on all laptops.

- The next thing cost me extremely annoyed and a lot of time, is to replace the built-in Atheros wireless card. The Internet is full of the Lenovo now described problem. It supports only the 2.4 GHz b / g / n band. However, I also need the 5GHZ band and want to exploit my 100 Mbit line. Coverage is acceptable, but the throughput is extremely poor. That's why I wanted to replace it with the wireless card Intel 7260 2x2AC + BT. I have, however, by previous search found that this is not so easy.
Lenovo has a Bios FRU list / Parts list integrated with serial numbers of hardware components that are compatible with this notebook. And others are then also not possible. When it tried but the notebook does not start or a message appears that the card is not compatible. The problem is that compatible hardware (almost) nowhere to be found. And Lenovo does not sell itself naturally also.
After 2 weeks, I have yet to muster 3 shops that sell the very good Intel card (with the Lenovo FRU number) search.
This number is needed, according to Lenovo Manual Manual: 20200552
But what is not necessarily true or sufficient. The map also hiding behind the FRU 04x6007.

WirelessLan_Intel, Intel 7260 2x2AC + BT WLAN PCIE M.2 V2
FRU 04x6007, 20,200,552th

It is also possible to pose a Bios which no longer checks the hardware list, but it loses most likely its warranty. For the device.

I do not understand Lenovo, this is to be able to just bullying the cards sell expensive or so you do have to buy a new laptop in a few years.
Normal Intel is getting card for 30-40. However, with the Lenovo FRU number only 69 to buy.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The notebook is not as easy to open, so I can recommend this video ([...]) very. But you have to be careful when opening.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conclusion:
Round I'm quite satisfied with the purchase and also my brother is happy with it. Also, the price was 849 in the cyber Monday week very well. Therefore, there is of me 4 stars.
