I wanted so long already set an air purifier for the occasionally used smoking room, but also against any odors in the kitchen. Especially when you can not necessarily reveal how lately at temperatures well above 30 degrees. So I recently accessed and decided on this model. The manufacturer is called "Baren" from Hong Kong, which is nowhere in this country distributed devices, the model number is the same, ie "Baren B-757B". By manufacturer homepage you therefore find a few more or more detailed specifications, as in the German documentation. More on this later. At least you get ever get the impression that this device, which in this country a little as a "no-name model" appears, is manufactured by a company specializing in air purifier Chinese manufacturer who still builds many more devices in this division and thus apparently made a name has. This is well in advance and should above all the availability of spare filters hopefully ensure reasonably.
The Device
Visually, I find it quite nice, but now not earth-shattering. But also is not so important, because is interesting, of course, got what it offers. And that's with 6 partly disconnectable filters / features quite a lot for the money:
- HEPA filter (the smallest particles up to 0.0001mm, fine dust, pollen, etc. Might be interested especially allergic)
- Activated carbon filter (including harmful gases) + photocatalysis filters (virus), both in a filter insert
- UV lamp (viruses / bacteria, can be switched off)
- Ion generator (can be switched off, further below)
- Ozone generator (can be disabled, also further below)
HEPA and activated carbon / photocatalysis filters are the basic functions of the device, which therefore can not be switched off, the classic "air cleaning" up. The other functions can be activated or deactivated individually. Particularly in the case of ions and ozone, this is good because it is quite a controversial issue.
Armed topic Ozone / Ion
First the ionizer: There are the manufacturer 8 million negative ions per cc generates - an indication per hour or the like, there is not. Negative ions are positive characteristics of well-being, health and also for the room air (odors bind) awarded. Yes even of freshness like a rain is partly the speech - well, on various advertising homepages of air purifier manufacturers in any case). On the other hand the whole is again quite controversial, the positive effects are often questioned and also should be noted that the ionizing always a little ozone may occur, which may be harmful to respiratory system and overall health. I'm not a scientist, and Google and Wikipedia just bring both pro- and contra-positions for ionizer. Alright, so that you can turn off the feature so everyone can make use of it, depending on the conviction or not.
The ozone generator: Wait a minute, I have not just written that the ionization can have harmful ozone arise ?! Why does the device then even a proper ozone generator ?? Now, ozone itself is wonderful for removing strong odors. Perhaps one or the other knows the ozone treatment of Autoaufbereitern to get eg miefende smoking carts again "fresh." The controller is supplied with but also an indication of paper on which, mutatis mutandis, is that the ozone function can wear out first, so should not be used continuously (but shuts down after an hour of self). And secondly, it should be noted that at current ozone function better not to stay in the room, especially not in smoke-filled rooms! I have to information found on the net that cigarette smoke is indeed "cleaned" of ozone very good, but at the same time, the two combine to form harmful molecules that are better not breathe. This means that smoking rooms be cleaned with ozone yes, but as long to leave the room and ventilate again afterwards, then volatilize or decompose these pollutants. In addition, the air is so still circulated or filtered through the other filters. But even so, you should also then not stopping by ozone operation or short in space, since ozone reduce performance and may irritate eyes and respiratory system.
The B-757B air purifier developed by the manufacturer 50 mg of ozone per hour. When you turn on the function, you can hear a distinct crackling and sees a kind of light flash / sparks at the top. In addition, the ozone smell is very strong, it goes a little towards chlorine smell. One knows that possibly also from copy shops of yesteryear, because the copier also always produces ozone.
Again to pure Ionisationsfunktion back: If here ozone should mitentstehen possibly, this may be only very slightly, for I perceive no such odors with pure Ionisierbetrieb. Especially the Japanese build ionizer from toothbrushes to refrigerator virtually anywhere and even with us you can find them in Foehn and so on. So I would imagine that the pure ionization is probably rather less harmful.
Suitable for bedrooms? Volume, air throughput and functions
There are three speed levels that deliver to instructions per 75 m³ / h and 23 dB, 100 m³ / h and 32 dB, and 150 m³ / h and 40 dB (air flow rate and volume). The manufacturers themselves are the way to an "Air Flow Volume" of 240 m³ / h. I can not verify, but I think it is really all right for this little device to be relatively much air flow. At the first stage it is really very pleasantly quiet, but even not completely inaudible in several meters distance. A television drowns the device but loosely, into the bedroom, I personally would not ask me that thing, but I'm also more sensitive and wants to be left alone. Added to which are actually quite meaningless little animation comes forward on the display, which is expected to disrupt the night more. Level 2 and 3, however, are especially clearly audible, no later than 3 I would leave the filter prefer to work in my absence. But this is, after all, quite good, so there is continuous operation, timer from 1, 2 or 4 hours, and an automatic mode. The latter, it runs for 20 minutes, 40 minute break and again.
If smells really eliminated or not?
The safe exciting question. I would say yes and no, or yes, but only fully with ozone: In normal filter operation without ozone gets you eg cooking odors mediocre away (but it is certainly better), almost no smoke. Although my first attempt at smoking without ozone brought something, but only slightly. When I wanted to try the next day in the kitchen, the device, the smell of cold smoke was first there exudes - rather not so good. This was only after a few hours operation gone slowly. Note: If you want to filter so-smoking rooms, as well as Non smoking rooms, maybe you should buy a second pair of filters!
With ozone generator on the other hand saw the thing completely different. I have it first made in the smoke-filled room from the day before, turned ozone and then leave the room and the whole thing again repeated, since the ozone function as mentioned switches off after an hour. The device then switches to the ionizer. It smelled after a while strongly of ozone, so something like chlorine. So I "leave" for a while the room and then released. A few hours later ... wow! A room that very unfamiliar smelling fresh suddenly! And I've tried it in a smoking room, which is not in use yet highly müffelt even after two weeks of stale smoke because furniture etc. have already taken up this. It has helped to at least 90%. If today - a few days later - enters the room, of course you still get an idea of that was smoked here once, but it is minimal compared to before and I have also carried out this treatment only once - would certainly make multiple passes needed to get an even better result. Ozone is therefore really be able to neutralize odors. Those who have a smoking car, the unit can also try the way there once with ozone function. The dresser machens indeed in principle no different and with the right small size it fits easily in any seat.
Conclusion: Why full 5 stars? Well, price and performance meet my expectations completely. So many filters and functions in one unit in this price range that are also switched off individually, which makes me happy. So everyone can use the cleaning functions or not just use that he wants. A filter of HEPA and activated carbon / photocatalysis (1 year / 6 months shelf life, according to traders) will cost around 17 euros, the suitable UV lamp about 5 Euro. The aroma can beiligende I have not yet tried the way, because I really think this goodie rather less interesting.
